Do you want a dedicated requests subforum or what?
#1
Some of you have asked for one. Others have expressed a preference for a single thread.

Personally, I think a dedicated forum would be in your best interests, and I'm on the verge of creating one.

But (either way) some of you are going to be unhappy so this is just a final quick check to make sure closing your existing thread and replacing it with a forum isn't going to cause mass disaffection.

Early exit polls showing overwhelming support for a subforum (well, two votes, but that's two more than the single thread vote has got)...

For those of you who haven't realized, you can click on "Show Results" above to see the latest-up-to-the-second results.

Not sure how long this unexpected foray into democracy will last so vote early, vote often once if you want your voice to count. Remember Brexit.

Why do I feel that people vote for in favor of the subforum, not because they want it, but because they hope it will increase the number of filled requests...
I doubt it would happen, just like Brexit Wink

Someone say Brexit? Fuck the EU.  Cool

It's neck and neck at the moment (assuming one of those necks belongs to a giraffe and the other to a koala).

Naysayers should say nay now if they want to avoid being swept aside by the tide of history.

Well, having lived with 1000-page-long threads at KAT, I am willing to try something different. Yes, everything was in one place, but try finding something more than a couple of days old, not to mention the repeats every couple of months.

If request threads are well-titled with a product name and/or SKU and/or specific subject matter, and not just "Anyone have this?", I think it could work out well. I do see the potential for a lot of deadwood once requests have been filled or definitively answered, but I suppose they could deter someone else from asking again, just use that thread if you must. The conversations will also flow more naturally, being focused on a single subject instead of interlacing three or twelve different topics at the same time.

I agree on a dedicated subforum for requests, BUT... I would also like to see a dedicated subforum for uploads as well. Reason being, we "like" to teach people to search first before requesting, as it may already have been uploaded or requested by somebody else. When you have a super-long thread or two or twenty of uploads, you get the same thing as you do with requests...conversation, and headaches searching through it.

Matter of fact, as we typically post images with upload posts, a dedicated subforum would be a lot easier to search as well, without not only going through page after page, but also scrolling through several varying post lengths due to overly-large images! Wink

That's something we can encourage (and to get things off to a good start I'll split up the existing thread and title the new threads "properly") but on an ongoing basis that balls is in the communities court.

Unfortunately it is quite common for requests to be poorly worded but the only real losers in such cases are the people who are too ignorant/arrogant to follow the "standard" and that's their loss which is entirely within their control.

The beauty of a sub-forum is that those will naturally sink off the front page--which will show the 20 latest requests (filled or unfilled) by default, which you can increase to 50 if you want by upping the threads-per-page setting under User CP>Option. And heightened visibility of the most recent 20-50 requests should work in everyones favor.

Not going to happen at this point for reasons I'm not going to go into in this thread but by all means create a thread for that discussion. [I'd recommend leaving it a couple of weeks to give people a chance to get used to this change first.]

10-2 in favor at this point so it's looking certain but we haven't heard from beaglebandit yet and I know he wasn't enamored with the idea when it was first mooted. If there are any others you want to hear from let them know to get themselves in here...otherwise I'll push the big red button in about 12 hours time. It's right next to the other big red button that deletes the site and all backups in case of a police raid on our servers so hopefully we'll have a shiny new subforum by tomorrow.
