Do uploaders earn money someway or the other?

Phil, what's the difference?

I don't agree with joew771 often, but I will now.

Sorry.

Maybe he seeds torrents he downloaded, and maybe he seeds torrents he uploaded, or both. But either way that's more than most people do.

Either way no reason to make him feel like he is doing something wrong.

Sorry.

No big deal. It's just the way I read this: "No one in this world works for free unless your life is well settled and want to do some social service." ...is that the poster's saying people like me, who just feel the most important thing is to share because information should be free, will only do this if our lives are "well settled." Which I take to mean well off. Which isn't the case. We're not well off. But that doesn't change what I believe in, or do. So...I guess I got a little oversensitive and took it as a slap in the face--as meaning people like me are fakes.

I'm prepared to drop the whole thing, in any case. He's entitled to his opinion, and hey, maybe he's right. Maybe I don't exist. Big Grin

I'm sure there are some site owners that make money from uploading and such, but I have my own way of making money.
40+ hour per week job, then buying what I like and sharing with others so they may enjoy it too. (Seedbox, VPN and male "escorts" also required).

Google takes peoples' information without their permission. The search engine they provide isn't free, you're just paying in a way you don't fully realize.

Hi, AncientRome? May I just shorten your nick to AR from now on?

How do you share and buy at the same time? Do you rip your purchased movies and upload them?

Although I don't like dishonest money-making, I do find an appeal for going to bootleg stalls. Anyone remember those? They're a final legacy to the last generation organised crime - or is it petty theft?

If you knew a person that would make a buck doing piracy, will you snitch him? If you ask me though, no, as long as he's not harmless. The guy possess no immediate danger or secretly helping to support organised crime.

I guess the consensus here is that pirates will buy and then will pirate. Other than that, they will not associate themselves with dirt like profiteers.

OK, my turn to talk is over, I will hand the podium back to you.

EDIT: AncientRome, just so you know, I'm not calling your habits "dishonest."

I have it on good authority from several Asian friends that bootleg stalls are *very* popular in the bigger Asian cities. And both my wife and I saw it repeatedly when we visited Venezuela back in the late 1970s. As you say, it's all gray market, and controlled by the syndicates. Whom I suspect see TPB and KAT as threats, these days, since we don't charge anything, and never would. Fuck 'em for wanting to just be a shadow government, and control all information.

https://arachnoid.com/freeware/index.html

I know this topic isn't exactly to do with something that is legal, or accepted by some people, but I would still want you to read this and reflect on it (to yourselves) while comparing it and contrast with this post.

It's by an atheistic scientist named Paul Lutus and it's a piece on freeware. Again, this isn't legal freeware, but the similarities are stunning. Sometimes to me, it's so similar that I am floored by it. If you don't want to read it, I'll just sum it up: there are plenty of help available from people around the world, whether it is from The Pirate Bay, or the Free Software Foundation, and they want to help you. But there's no help that you can get if you don't help yourself. Just be thankful. Many people are giving you a lot of help, especially from the aforementioned organisations. Sometimes I find despair in the simplest things that I find it necessary to share this link to others.

This doesn't directly address the issue at hand, but with the amount of people that would say that they would share, I am touched and am forced to remember that I have been helped many times in my life. I live in a country that cares about its people, no matter the regime, I am well-fed, and I have received complimentary secondary education. Yet, I always feel despair and pain in the simplest things. Then I remember this article and am forced to acknowledge the examples of things that help me live a good life.

If you are like me, read it and think about it.

Of course, I want to keep the status quo the status quo, but continue your work. Share your music, share your software, share everything. Because every time you do, you're making a difference. This is because those who benefit from it will be thankful, like what Paul Lutus says.

It doesn't address the issue at hand period.

But then neither do most of the replies here.
