Best practice for security?

Hi, noob here,
Is there a guide for best practice concerning security, as in, not downloading malicious content? I can't find any.
In the meantime, I was hoping for some pointers: is downloading an ISO for a Windows OS that has been in place for a year and a half usually safe? That's what I'm doing right now.

If you're a noob, download from Trusted or VIP uploaders (pink or green skulls). That's the safest method.

The best practice is to read the FAQ, and exercise common sense before downloading anything. If you're a total noob, stick around the forum for a while to increase your knowledge.
