Atheists are more intelligent than religious people, finds study.

Atheism only applies in a sensible manner when you apply it to the only other option being ORGANIZED religion.

If I had to choose between Christianity, Judaism, etc. and still with that ONE as a truth, I'd be atheist. saying that out of the choices, religion doesn't exist. IRL we all kno it's much more dynamic than that.

Have you ever been surrounded by fanatics and bullied into following their credo with applied shaming strategies and the whole lot? Can you imagine how that would make you wanna kill yourself?

I've sold myself to be one of the group, the self loathing that builds is UNBEARABLE. You think somehow you are wrong because people tell you, yet you don;t get it.. Deep down you know you are just not strong enough to take a stand... it sucks

That plus the belief that there is nothing more than what you see??? Who wouldn't ? At least I know there is a greater purpose, so even if its getting my ass kicked, for some reason, that's my role.

even if I'm wrong, better than believing this is all for nothing

Sorry to interject, but I think that the title of this thread, with all due respect to politux, is generalised in origin.

kerkunkah seems to prove a point, if a blank statement.

I don't know, but believing in something to carry on your time is a little effective, to the point of being a happy person

You see, I am not a God-believing man, and I do fear death. I fear because I know I'll go into oblivious. If you had a near-death experience before, please convince me that heaven is for real, or rather, hell is for real; either place will do.

Why do you not believe that I exist? Here I am.

When Nietzsche and Darwin (inadvertently on Chucks part) proclaimed the Gotterdammerung, there resulted a 'cosmic void' so deep and so empty that Freddy warned that it can "stare back at you".

Nihilism is not healthy, and runs against our genetic programming.

The most natural belief of humanity in neolithic cultures is pantheism. That nature and the universe are the sum total of divinities.
Monotheism is unnatural and predicated on monism, which has been pretty much discredited since the days of William James.

Find a god, pick a god. The Hindus have 33 million of them.

Eris is my favorite. A bit of a dingbat, but she is *interesting*.

I've always maintained that God is everything and nothing is the spirit and physical universe. So the question is not does God exist, but How does he exist for me in this lifetime?

Whatever conclusion you come to, as long as it's based on love in yout heart and not because "thats what you were told" or otherwise out of fear "I better believe cuz if there is, I'll be punished or chastised by others" you are correct up to a point. Just know that what you believe is not all there is, but what you believe only matters for you.

God is Life.
Simple enough.

Or as Ghandi said:
God is Love.

Same thing.

exactly my point without all the unnecessary words. Hate/evil is an energy that's a part of god used to be able to see the good. Like the day/night example I used, yuo can't see/know good if there is nothing to compare it to.

This may sound fucked up, to some, but when we are part of the spirit energy (dead or not reborn), we don't care about the suffering here in the physical realm. Someone told me a preacher said that you'll be in heaven, and if your loved ones are in hell, you won't care that they are suffering.

at the time I thought that was fucked up, but NOT I agree.. not because it's sinister, but in the spirit, we know that the spirits in the physical world are doing what they chose when they lived life. all the pain, we may see as unbearable, but the pain they experience is growing the spiritual world. So we don't care not because they deserve it, but we know they are bettering themselves and are happy they are doing what they CHOSE to do before being born even if they chose to forget when they are born.

To me, that explains the horror of kids with cancer or other travesties in life. The more developed spirits (God only gives you what you can handle) choose a life of pain, because, the deeper the pain goes, the higher the joy Goes... Those are the true God warriors.

like demons/negative energy, people who put themselves in bad places for others to experience, there are well developed/angels that take the hardest hits in life... Usually, they don't live long because they don't need to. They live to serves as a beacon for others then go.

I am not at that point. I'm at the other end fucking with demons so I can see how to live can be shitty and physically see I need room for improvement. If anything, I hope people see me and say, well, that's a way NOT to live. Before I understood that I tried a few times to check out, luckily I was too high to succeed. Even the most pathetic life has a place...

Also, people we see here that are rich with no apparent problems (Hollywood kids, Paris Hilton tyes), don't necessarily mean they are weak souls. In my experiences with being high and verify it later with reading and other things. Paris's soul may have been a baby born with aidz and died in horrific circumstances in a past life, so this life is a "break" Trust me, If the god energy allows, My next life I'll die from getting my wang sucked too much by too many beautiful hookers to just wanna steal my billions... In reality, I have a feeling I'll be told that my life here is not bad enough to warrant that and to stop being a bitch.

*-just to clarify, I'm thinking in my spiritual cap. in the physical world, while we are here together, it's not right to say it's part of a plan... That's condescending and vacant. we have to try to help each other out of those situations as best we can. Live physically in the physical realm, so we can live spiritually when we return back

Called myself agnostic for a long time. Not agnostic atheist as some people in my opinion often wrongly do but whatever, and have also never been religious. I used to be very critical of religion and I still am in several aspects but when I look at it as something mostly secondary to a core understanding I tend to view it more favorably, though still very dependent on the individual and how they use it. I think the atheism is an effect of being lured into a false dichotomy versus religious dogma and is an unfortunate situation that comes from thinking that religion has a monopoly on belief, spirituality and the fundamental topics of existence outside of the mostly stale and insufficient answers that science provides, sort of becoming its own doctrine but without ever admitting it. I don't think this is exclusive to belief though, because in modern society everything is either black or white

Have been thinking more about why for a lot of things for a long while. And it could just as well have been nothing. Why do we have things that are sentience and free will, why is there any life at all and why is there objective good, beauty and love, and on the same coin also everything which is antithetical to those things. I don't think that it's all random that we and everything exist. It doesn't compute that it's all an error in a meaningless code – first the big bang out of an eternal void and then here we (or at least some of us) are out of nothing questioning existence

Though more of an atheist in the classical sense, astronomer Carl Sagan said that we are a way for the universe to know itself. I think that's the ultimate answer. In order for that self knowing to materialize reality can't be predetermined, we and other beings must have free will, the rules and meaning of life can't be spelled out to us without us realizing it ourselves, and there must be a possibility for both good and bad. God for lack of a better term is ultimate reality and and each and everyone of us, along with other life and things throughout the universe are part of that reality to various degrees. With some individual limitations you can embrace life, which is not only your own, or you can work against it, and also figure out what those things are most likely to do
