Allow 7zip or other file types in torrent categorys

Here's my suggestion for category's we should be able to 7zip some files included for or torrents.

Example if i try to upload a movie/dvdr category and if i 7zip it i can't upload, we used to be able to
do this.

What I'm asking... another example i had to 7zip my jdownloader 2 beta because the files were to many
a large number for torrent uploading the site couldn't because it couldn't display so many files for
the torrent description.

So my only option was to 7zip or compress it.  But these file types are no longer accepted in certain
upload category's.

I had to upload it using the 'other category' instead of applications/windows.

which hides away the torrent that should be indexed in the proper category for people
that need to download it.

Only the operators of tpb can redo this or recode the site to allow these type of files.

Archives in torrents are almost always a bad idea.  They are less likely to be seeded and make the torrent entirely unusable if there is less than complete availability in the swarm.  From a moderation standpoint, it makes it a lot harder to evaluate if the torrent is malicious or not.


As you rightly point out, the problem isn't necessarily the inability to upload compressed files, but the fact that TPB has a problem with high file counts and large data sizes.

I can agree with increasing the limits on that.  But as for allowing compressed files where they currently aren't allowed, I'd say no.

High file numbers tend to make the spam filter time out, as a VIP you are fine to upload archived files (which will be checked periodically). Archives are not allowed in Movies simply because there is nothing to gain by archiving them and a lot to hide, same as Audio cat.

Many of movies torrents are including subtitles is that a problem if they are in zip/rar archive fail? Thanks.

If the upload process fails because there are zipped/rar'ed subtitles in the torrent that is a problem for the uploader, which they can solve by unzipping the subtitles and recreating the torrent.

If the upload process fails because there are zipped/rar'ed subtitles in the torrent that is not a problem for the site. We don't want those torrents that is why we don't allow them.

Archives are not bad per se but they are easily and frequently abused by spammers and spreaders of malware. Wish it wasn't so, but it is.

This policy is not going to change.
