How to disable Windows 10 Updates

Create additional user called "whatever" with password "whatever"

Run "Services.msc" and edit properties of "Windows Update" service.

Go to "Log On" tab and switch from "Local System account" to "This account"

Use the account You created in the first step, apply settings and close it all. (You can use disabled guest account as well)

Delete the account from step one "whatever" and reboot system. (restarting the service would be ok too)

Done.

*notes: At first I wanted to create tutorial "step by step for dummies" with screens but does every tutorial needs to teach 123basics ? yeah  Big Grin
You don't even need to create another user account...

Another way to do this with Windows 10 Pro/EDU/Enterprise (or anything that's not Home):

Win+R -> gpedit.msc -> Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update -> Do not connect to any Windows Update Internet locations

Instead of disabling it completely, you can also configure the automatic restarts there to not download automatically, and enable "No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations".

It didn't let me apply settings with non-existing user when I tried, using local policies is a good option as well  Wink

Spybot Search & Destroy has an anti-telemetry app that is easy for Windows users. It's set and forget but you'll want to check it to make sure that Windows hasn't turned parts of it off when they do their updates.

If you already use Windows 10 Professional most if not all of the "spying" is removed so you would have little to nothing to worry about if you use it with the Spybot application.

Hope this helps.
