im kinda ignorant on this .. if i place this file in my shared folder, will it be seen as a seed for the torrent? it's down to having the same hash, innit?

If it were the same file with the same name then yes, you could place it in your shared folder and re-seed the torrent.

But they are not the same file (different size, DVDRip vs. VHSRip) so it won't work.

What you could do though, is create a brand new torrent of the file and share that as the initial seeder.
