MyBB doesn't offer that as an option. It's all or nothing, and turning it off doesn't actually hide the fact that you are online.

If MyBB didn't offer it as an option, maybe one of you is willing to go to the source

And yes, you as a staff or administrator has the right to see the activities of members in forum, it's okay, reasonable.
But for member to member, it should be limited.
Even a guest can see a member if he is in the same thread.

Actually, what I want to say here is about privacy for members (for me )

If someone wants to write an add on that does this, we might consider installing it. No one here is going to take the time to write in that functionality.

OK. Wait for someone come with these addon or new release of MyBB.

I'm guessing you didn't actually read about what that plugin does.

It most certainly doesn't hide who is currently viewing a thread. Quite the opposite, it adds a list of all members who ever viewed the thread.
