Before you even open uTorrent, first you need to create the folder organizing the file(s) you wish to upload.
So let's say you want to make it on your desktop.

(I'll be using the latest torrent I uploaded for this tutorial)


Next, in that folder I created, you create two more folders: an information folder and a folder with the files you're uploading to TPB.


In the information folder, you'll want 3 things: info text file, cover image, and the torrent file.

• Why info text?
  

This is where you can save the description you plan to put on TPB torrent. That way, if you accidentally refresh on the page, close out a window, or some other problem, you'll have the description saved somewhere from which you can just paste it again. Also, since there's no edit function on TPB torrents, you'll want to make sure you got it right the first time. Check and double check!

• Why cover image?
  

This is entirely optional. It's the cover of the music album you're uploading. While not necessary, it keeps things organized and looking nice.

• Why torrent file?
  

The final thing you'll need is the torrent file, but that comes in step 2, so just keep that mentally pinned. In order to upload it to TPB, you'll need this easily accessible so this is where it's going to be.

Exit out of the info folder and go to the other folder you created. Here is where you'll paste all the files you want to share to other pirates, so paste them here. Before you go on though, check and see if your files are compatible with what you're uploading! For this example, since this is Audio > Music, we can't have anything other than music files aside from the covers, such as JPGs, PNGs, and such.

After you're all done with putting the files you want to upload in there, it's time to make sure they're read only. "Read Only" means that, once checked, that the files are unable to be edited or changed from your torrent. This makes sure that errors aren't made if you or others who open them from your torrent (the errors fully explained in depth here. Try not to let this happen!).

To make your torrent files "read only", select all of the files in the upload folder, right click, click "Properties". You should see this.


Make sure that box is checked, and you're good to go to the next step.

Now it's time to open up uTorrent. When you open it, you'll only need the top bar buttons.


The button in red is the "Create Torrent" button, which is the one we need. After we click that, we'll see this window.


There are only two important things we need to worry about here. I'll explain them in order.

• Add File/Directory
  

This is where you direct uTorrrent to show what files you want to upload. Remember the folder we made with all the read-only files? That's the one you want. Direct yourself to it with "Add Directory". Note: If, in a different torrent, you're only adding one file to be uploaded, use Add File instead.

• Other
  

These check boxes are the only ones we care about. The others should be left alone, since if enabled, they will not be allowed to be uploaded to TPB (very literally; the system doesn't allow them).

If you have any trackers in "Torrent Properties", go ahead and delete them. TPB has its own trackers which it automatically adds, so any others are not necessary.

After you've done all of that, click "Create". It will create a popup informing you on the lack of trackers. That's fine, just go ahead and click "Yes" to continue.

Now it'll ask you to save the torrent somewhere. Remember the information folder? That's where it's best to go.


Now that it's saved, you're all done with Step 2!

Now it's time to go to TPB to upload that bad boy. First login to TPB (or create an account if you haven't, it's easy and just requires a few minutes). Then, click on Upload Torrent.


Let's do this step by step.

1. Torrent File
   This is where you upload the torrent file you created and saved in the Info folder.
   
2. Torrent Name
   This is where you name the torrent. There are 2 rules though.
   Firstly, it has to be 55 characters or less. So if it's longer, even if it's 56, it will be cut off at 55.
   Lastly, you want to be descriptive. Try your best to put the name of the album/song & artist at least. Everything else to help it turn up in a search. You don't want to name it something no one can find.
   
   If you are content with the torrent file name being the the title, just leave it blank and the torrent file name will be the torrent name once uploaded.
   
3. Category
   For this situation, you'll need "Audio > Music". However, depending on the files you're sharing, it could be one of the many other things. Be sure to be as accurate as you can with your choice.
   
4. Anonymous
   While it's nice to upload things with your name attached, sometimes a little anonymity is nice. Check this if you want it anonymously uploaded to TPB.
   
5. Tags
   Tags are basically search terms that apply to torrents "tagged" with the term, rather than search for it specifically. It's best that you use popular tags that are already in the tag cloud, rather than making tons of tags. Being accurate to the content is important as well, such as tagging it "lossy" "mp3" and such. This makes it helpful for those reading what's inside of the torrent and what it's about.
   
6. Image
   While entirely optional, an image helps out both with making it look nicer in presentation, as well as provide fellow pirates a clue as to what the cover is and therefore knowing more about what the download is. In order to add an image, you use Bayimg, TPB's cousin file host (specifically for images).
   
   
   
   
   Just upload the image you which to represent the torrent, create a password (you don't need to save it, it's just required in order to upload it), and make sure it's set to TPB standards in settings. After being uploaded, it redirects you to a page showing the url and TPB image code for the image. Copy that and paste it back in your torrent.
   
7. Description
   Remember info.txt I asked you to create in step 1? Paste the description you created in the torrent description box now. Remember, proofread and make sure you having it look exactly as you want. When you paste it in, some things may look different so check to be 100% sure.
   
8. Add to index
   Type in the captcha and you're done! You created and uploaded a torrent to The Pirate Bay.

If you mess up the title or description?
Just head on over to the Account Issues forum. However, you can also use that to remove torrents you no longer wish to have up, as well as hashes. Be sure to follow their instructions on how to post there though, so you make their jobs easier.

How long should you seed a torrent?
There's no specific rule to this, but it's primarily up to you. However, when you first upload your torrent to TPB, it is good to seed at least for 24 hours after upload, so that others may both download and possibly seed your torrent as well.
