Hey guys,

Since the restart of this board, one of the most informational threads about game-playing, at least in my opinion it is, has been wiped out along with the rest of the 'good stuff.'

A few years ago, a once-prominent member of the Suprbay thread, even though I still don't like him (joking), created a thread about playing some pirated games online. Yes, you can do it; it's possible!

Here's to it, solcott; we owe it all to you!

Main URL: https://web.archive.org/web/201012060026...?tid=24841

P.S. It would be good if this post was stickied or even posted in the Pirate Wiki. Lastly, please add more as you deem required.

This tutorial will teach you how to play many games online for free, without paying for them.

I'll be adding games to this list as I have time, also depending on what games are popular at that time, so if you have a game you want added or a contribution to the thread let me know :-)

All outgoing links in this tutorial are redirected through anonym.to, for you paranoid types who wouldn't want some server admin seeing traffic on your IP coming to their website from The Pirate Bay.

NOTE: This thread is going to be pretty much a constant W.I.P., at least until I become rich and start buying all of my video games and don't play pirated ones anymore.

ANOTHER NOTE: This thread also assumes you have basic piracy and computer "knowledge", for example you know what to do with split volume archives, how to mount disc images, read NFO's, update games, read the English language, etc.

FINAL NOTE: This post is for educational purposes, I the writer of it take no responsibility for any negative side effects suffered by the reader, including: male pattern baldness, impotence, imprisonment, or death. Following some of the instructions in this tutorial may be illegal where you live, so consult a lawyer before reading.

-------------------------------------------------
Left4Dead added: Jan. 28, 2009
Step 1: Download the game: TPB SEARCH(http://thepiratebay.org/search/left%204%20dead/0/7/400) , PSY RELEASE(http://thepsyfamily.blogspot.com/2008/12/psy-left-4-dead-1005-full-game.html)
Step 2: Patch the game: 1(http://www.mediafire.com/?mjttydmkmmq), GOOGLE (Version 1.0.0.9)(http://www.google.com/search?q=Left4Dead+1.0.0.9+Patch)
Step 3: Patch the game again: 1(http://www.mediafire.com/?xjzyjydjljj), GOOGLE (Non-Steam Patch)(http://www.google.com/search?q=Left4Dead+Non+Steam+Patch)
Step 4: Find a list of servers: 1(http://www.epcgaming.com/epcgaming_v2/servers2.php?gameid=28), 2(http://www.thepsyfamily.net/forum/index.php?topic=4966.0), GOOGLE(http://www.google.com/search?q=l4d+private+servers)
Step 5: Launch the game, and in the console (press ~, enable it in the options if needed) type "connect serverip:port", for example to connect to a game running at IP 1.2.3.4 on port 12345 you would type "connect 1.2.3.4:12345"

NOTE: This tutorial is for Left4Dead v1.0.0.9, non-Steam version. You will only be able to play with 1.0.0.9 players, not higher or lower versions of the client (as of writing this 1.0.0.9 is the newest version). Also, the patches in this tutorial use .NET Framework 3.5, so either install it or find other patches. The Skullptura and SKIDROW releases available on TPB are reported as "working" with these patches, but I personally have had far better luck with the Psy Family release, and if you have a fast internet connection the game is downloadable in about 45 minutes via the Mediafire links.

NOTE 2: I've had reports that this guide does NOT work with Skullpturas release. (added this to let people know more than people than myself were unable to use this method with the Skullptura release)

The Catch: No Steam friends, no achievements, no in game server browser, no anti cheat protection. External server browsers such as QTracker, HLSW and XFire are capable or launching the game for you to mostly eliminate the need of the console, but instructions would nearly triple the length of the Left4Dead tutorial. If you're too lazy to copy/paste into the console, Google instructions on configuring QTracker, etc. to work with non-Steam L4D.

Serious Sam: The First Encounter added: Jan. 28, 2009
Step 1: Download the game: TPB SEARCH (Get First Encounter)(http://thepiratebay.org/search/Serious%20Sam/0/7/400)
Step 2: Patch the game: 1(http://files.seriouszone.com/download.php?fileid=398), GOOGLE(http://www.google.com/search?q=Serious+Sam+Patch)
Step 3: Just join multiplayer games, this game "just works" without needing private servers.

NOTE: This should be pretty easy to get working, if you can't get online with this one consider yourself a failure as a pirate.

The Catch: Some newer graphics cards have a hard time with this game.

Serious Sam: The Second Encounter added: Jan. 28, 2009
Step 1: Download the game: TPB SEARCH (Get Second Encounter)(http://thepiratebay.org/search/Serious%20Sam/0/7/400)
Step 2: Patch the game: 1(http://files.seriouszone.com/download.php?fileid=398), GOOGLE(http://www.google.com/search?q=Serious+Sam+Patch)
Step 3: Just join multiplayer games, this game "just works" without needing private servers.

NOTE: This should be pretty easy to get working, if you can't get online with this one consider yourself a failure as a pirate.

The Catch: Some newer graphics cards have a hard time with this game.

Operation Flashpoint: GOTY added: Sep. 5, 2008
Step 1: Download the game: TPB SEARCH (Get a GOTY version)(http://thepiratebay.org/search/Operation%20Flashpoint/0/7/400)
Step 2: Patch the game: 1(http://www.flashpoint1985.com/download/download.html), 2(http://www.codemasters.com/downloads/details.php?id=13181&territory=EnglishUSA), GOOGLE(http://www.google.com/search?q=Operation+Flashpoint+GOTY+Patch)
Step 3: Just join multiplayer games, this game "just works" without needing private servers.

NOTE: This tutorial only applies to the Game of the Year version of Operation Flashpoint. OP:F GOTY includes both of the OP:F expansions.

The Catch: If you use a no-cd crack you can never have more than one health, mount the game in Daemon Tools with all emulation options turned off and the game will work fine and pass the cd check.

Team Fortress 2 added: Aug. 31, 2008
Step 1: Download the game: TPB TORRENT(http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/4353939/Team.Fortress.2.v1.0.3.9.FULL.19.08.2008)
Step 2: Patch the game: TPB USER(http://thepiratebay.se/user/LIONz21/)
Step 3: Start the game and browse for multiplayer servers, it will only list ones that have been cracked. That's it!

NOTE: This tutorial is built off of a release of TF2 by Lionz / The GamerX.Lv gaming community. I've tried a lot of TF2 releases before buying the game, and the Lionz/GamerX.Lv releases are by far the best as far as usability goes. They have great installers, patching is very straightforward, and the releases "just work"®. Patch the game by browsing Lionz torrents and patching incrementally up from the full release you downloaded.

The Catch: Stat tracking is broken if you are into that sort of thing, however achievements and weapon unlocks work. If you have a real Steam account that doesn't own TF2 and Steam is running while you play your real Steam account will log the time you play TF2 even though your account isn't listed as owning it. This could be used by VALVe to track you as a pirate, so if you want to use Steam with this for "Steam Friends" or whatever purpose either create a new, empty Steam account or make sure Steam isn't running when you play.

Call of Duty 4 added: Aug. 28, 2008
Step 1: Download the game: TPB SEARCH (http://thepiratebay.org/search/Call%20of%20Duty%204/0/7/400)
Step 2: Patch the game: 1(http://browse.files.filefront.com/Official_Patches/;2116054;/browsefiles.html), 2(http://www.worthdownloading.com/game.php?gid=2591), GOOGLE (http://www.google.com/search?q=Call+of+Duty+4+Patch)
Step 3: Find a list of servers: 1(http://www.mediafire.com/?iqjtycvnmcs), 2(http://www.game-monitor.com/search.php?search=cracked&type=server&game=cod4&location=US), 3(http://www.nobsclan.com/forums/index.php?PHPSESSID=0127ce5fdd8d25f2854e0fbe9ca24a6f&topic=4690.0), GOOGLE (http://www.google.com/search?q=cod4+private+servers)
Step 4: Add the server address/port to the in game favorites, or a tool like XFire and connect. That's it!

The Catch: Many private servers run an old or no version of PunkBuster, and you may end up playing on a server with cheaters or get kicked for running a "too new" version of PunkBuster. I recommend finding a couple good servers (such as the NoBS servers) and installing a PunkBuster version that will work there and sticking with that server.

Unreal Tournament 2004 added: Aug. 28, 2008
Step 1: Download the game: TPB SEARCH (http://thepiratebay.org/search/Unreal%20Tournament%202004/0/7/400)
Step 2: Patch the game: 1 (http://www.unrealtournament2003.com/ut2004/downloads.html), GOOGLE (Use the MegaPack) (http://www.google.com/search?q=Unreal+Tournament+2004+Mega+Pack)
Step 3: Crack the game: 1 (http://www.mediafire.com/?iqjtycvnmcs), 2 (http://mihd.net/rw8ophf), 3 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6IAMSUBF), GOOGLE (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22UT2004.All.Versions.Patch.zip%22)
Step 4: Start the game and browse for multiplayer servers, it will only list ones that have been cracked. That's it!

The Catch: Stat tracking doesn't really work if you're into that sort of thing (eg. more that one player has probably used the generated key you are using) and you can only play vanilla UT2004, not any UT2004 mods.

Battlefield 2 added: Aug. 30, 2008
Step 1: Download the game: TPB SEARCH (Get the DVD version) (http://thepiratebay.org/search/Battlefield%202/0/7/400)
Step 2: Patch the game: 1 (http://browse.files.filefront.com/Battlefield+2+Official+Patches/;1347495;/browsefiles.html), 2 (http://www.ea.com/official/battlefield/battlefield2/us/downloads.jsp), GOOGLE (http://www.google.com/search?q=Battlefield+2+Patch)
Step 3: Get and mount the BF2 Mini Image: 1 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2A9P1VC5), 2 (http://www.mediafire.com/?ixrbxwhfw0s), 3 (http://mihd.net/kp8y9bo), GOOGLE (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22BF2DVD.rar%22)
Step 4: Start the game, and create an account/soldier name. Close the game.
Step 5: Install Qtracker: QTRACKER (http://www.qtracker.com/)
Step 6: Configure Qtracker to handle BF2 auto-login with the soldier name you just created. You are given the option during installation, but if you miss it you can configure this by clicking View / Settings on the menu.
Step 7: Find a list of servers: 1 (http://www.epcgaming.com/epcgaming_v2/servers2.php?gameid=9), 2 (http://www.private-servers.info/Battlefield2.html?newlang=english), GOOGLE (http://www.google.com/search?q=Battlefield+2+private+servers)
Step 8: Right click on the Battlefield 2 group in Qtracker and create a new folder to hold the BF2 servers you want to play on.
Step 9: Right click on the folder you created and choose New Server, enter the server IP to add it to your list.
Step 10: Double click the server you added in the list to play. That's it!

NOTE: XFire may also work for building a favorites list, but I am not familiar enough with XFire to know if it is capable of sending BF2 login info via command line.

The Catch: If you are on the continent of North America most servers will have terrible latency, want to fix that? Run a North American BF2 server and advertise it! Also, see the CoD4 PunkBuster problem.

Sins of a Solar Empire added: Aug. 28, 2008
Step 1: Download the game: TPB SEARCH (http://thepiratebay.org/search/Sins%20of%20a%20Solar%20Empire/0/7/400)
Step 2: Patch the game: TPB SEARCH (Download the Bonus Packs) (http://thepiratebay.org/search/Sins%20of%20a%20Solar%20Empire/0/7/400)
Step 3: Install Hamachi: HAMACHI (https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp)
Step 4: Find a Hamachi network to play on: PLANETHAMACHI (http://www.planethamachi.com/), GOOGLE (http://www.google.com/search?q=Public+Hamachi+Networks)
Step 5: Create/Join a LAN game and play. That's it!

The Catch: It might be hard to find a Hamachi network with anyone playing, so maybe check IRC for pick up games or ask a friend to play with you. Also, if you're stupid, being on a public Hamachi network could open your PC for attack, for example I troll public Hamachi networks and delete peoples stuff out of read/write to anybody network shares all the time.

Civilization IV + Expansions added: Aug. 28, 2008
Step 1: Download the game: TPB SEARCH (http://thepiratebay.org/search/Civilization%20IV/0/7/400)
Step 2: Patch the game: CIV4 (http://www.firaxis.com/support/support_detail.php?gameid=13&patch=1), WARLORDS (http://anonym.to/?http://www.firaxis.com/support/support_detail.php?gameid=13&patch=1), BTS (http://www.firaxis.com/support/support_detail.php?gameid=16&patch=1), GOOGLE (http://www.google.com/search?q=Civilization+IV+Patch)
Step 3: Crack the game: CIV4 (http://www.gameburnworld.com/gp/gamefixes/civilization4.shtml), WARLORDS (http://www.gameburnworld.com/gp/gamefixes/civilization4warlords.shtml), BTS (http://www.gameburnworld.com/gp/gamefixes/civilization4beyondthesword.shtml), GOOGLE (http://www.google.com/search?q=Civilization+IV+Crack)
Step 4: Just join multiplayer games, this game "just works" without needing private servers.

The Catch: A feeling of guilt from stealing from a company as awesome as Firaxis?

Neverwinter Nights added: Feb. 14, 2009, updated: Jun, 5 2009
Step 1: Download the game: TPB SEARCH (http://thepiratebay.org/search/Neverwinter%20Nights%20-2/0/7/400)
Step 2: Download expansion 1: TPB SEARCH (http://thepiratebay.org/search/Shadows%20of%20Undrentide/0/7/400)
Step 3: Download expansion 2: TPB SEARCH (http://thepiratebay.org/search/Hordes%20of%20the%20Underdark/0/7/400)
ALTERNATE Step 1-3: Download NWN Diamond: TPB SEARCH (http://thepiratebay.org/search/Neverwinter%20Nights%20Diamond/0/7/400)
OTHER ALTERNATE Step 1-3: Download this torrent: TPB TORRENT (http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/3259183/Neverwinter_Nights___Both_Expansions)
Step 4: Allow the game to autopatch to the newest version. Newer versions of the game do not need the cd in the drive.
Step 5: Block communication to BioWare's NWN master server. Either firewall traffic to nwmaster.bioware.com or add an entry to block access using your hosts file. See below for hosts file instructions.
Windows XP / Vista32 Instructions:
Quote:
Disable UAC (if using Vista32)
Press Start -> Run
Type: cmd
(a command prompt will open)
Type: echo 127.0.0.1 nwmaster.bioware.com >> %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Vista64 Instructions:
Quote:
Disable UAC
Press Start -> Run
Type: cmd
(a command prompt will open)
Type: mkdir %SystemRoot%\sysnative
Type: echo 127.0.0.1 nwmaster.bioware.com >> %SystemRoot%\sysnative\drivers\etc\hosts
Step 6: Join a Hamachi network with someone. (see SOASE tutorial above if you do not know how to use Hamachi)
Step 7: Create/Join a LAN game and play. That's it!

NOTE: If you have antivirus software, it will probably go INSANE when you modify your hosts file. Also, this tutorial might not work at all on Vista64 because 32 bit applications are not allowed to use the hosts file. (I have no way of testing this in Vista64, I am just using the assumption of the sysnative backdoor allowing access to the hosts file by 32 bit software)

The Catch: You need to disable UAC on Vista to modify the hosts file, and some people (retards) like having UAC turned on. Some antivirus software will also reset the hosts file to it's default content because editing the hosts file is very commonly done by viruses and spyware, and very uncommonly done by a user.

World of Warcraft added: Sep. 14, 2008
Step 1: Download the game: TPB SEARCH (http://thepiratebay.org/search/World%20of%20Warcraft/0/7/400), FROM BLIZZARD (https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/account/download/clients/pc/WoW-BurningCrusade-enUS-Installer-downloader.exe)
Step 2: Find a server to join: 1 (http://www.xtremetop100.com/world-of-warcraft), 2 (http://www.gamingsites100.com/world-of-warcraft/), GOOGLE
Step 3: Follow whatever extra instructions the server you want to join gives you.

NOTE: Follow the instructions of the server you want to join carefully, some might just need a realmlist edit, some might have custom content, some might only use WoW and not Burning Crusade, etc. etc.

The Catch: I don't play it myself but I imagine like any other MMO WoW is probably a big time sink, and they're always the chance that the server you play on will just disappear.

Ultima Online added: Sep. 14, 2008
Step 1: Download the game: 1 (http://files.filefront.com/Ultima+Online+Gold+Digital+Purchase/;3823338;/fileinfo.html), 2 (http://www.fileplanet.com/150525/150000/fileinfo/Ultima-Online-Gold-15-day-Trial), GOOGLE
Step 2: Download ConnectUO: 1 (http://rapidshare.com/files/101576983/CUODesktop_Latest.zip.html), 2 (http://eriland.com/connectuo/CUODesktop_Latest.zip), 3 (http://serpentsfang.com/patches/CUODesktop_Latest.zip), 4 (http://www.alterna-uo.net/CUODesktop_Latest.zip), GOOGLE
Step 3: Start Ultima Online and let it patch, do not create an account.
Step 4: Start ConnectUO and choose a server to join. That's it!

NOTE: This tutotial uses Ultima Online Gold as it's client, you can use older clients if you already have one (although they will have a lot of missing content compared to UO Gold) but Kingdom Reborn or newer is NOT supported. Also the .NET Framework 2.0 is required to run ConnectUO.

The Catch: Just like I mentioned in the WoW tutorial the server you play on could just disappear. I'd suggest playing on one of the servers that has been well establised for a few years such as the RunUO servers. Also for some people the release template that ConnectUO uses is completely broken. If you get a crash report instead of a list of servers when you start ConnectUO click on Tools -> Options -> Browser and change the template from Release to Default.

Lineage II added: Sep. 14, 2008
Step 1: Download the game: 1 (http://www.fileplanet.com/182143/180000/fileinfo/Lineage-2---Chaotic-Throne-Test-Client), 2 (http://games.on.net/file/13193/Lineage_II_The_Chaotic_Throne_-_Kamael_PTS_Client), GOOGLE (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Lineage_II_CT1_-_PTS.zip%22)
Step 2: Find a server to join: 1 (http://www.xtremetop100.com/lineage2), 2 (http://www.gamingsites100.com/lineage2/), GOOGLE (http://www.google.com/search?q=lineage+2+private+servers)
Step 3: Follow whatever extra instructions the server you want to join gives you.

NOTE: This tutorial is using the Lineage II Test Server Client. In general the Test Server Client performs better on private servers than the "standard" client does because it is made for being played on the Test Server, a server where new features for the game are being developed and the client is designed to just accept whatever kind of things the server is doing without throwing (as many) errors as the normal client would in a changing environment. If the server you want to join says to use the standard client instead of the test server client by all means use that one instead.

The Catch: If you follow the directions of the server you want to join incorrectly you are going to end up wasting a lot of time during reinstalls of the game client. Some servers will want you to patch your game before connecting, some servers will only work on an unpatched game, some servers will have their own content patches to play on their server, some servers will only need you to change the address of the Lineage II master server. There really is no "standard" way to join a server, and when you have a client set up for play on one server if you want to joina different one in general you need to start over from scratch with the installation/patching routines.

Dungeon Siege 2 added: Aug. 30, 2008
Step 1: Download the game: TPB SEARCH (http://thepiratebay.org/search/Dungeon%20Siege%202/0/7/400)
Step 2: Patch the game: 1 (?http://www.gaspowered.com/ds2/patch.php?&skipLoad=1), 2 (http://browse.files.filefront.com/Dungeon+Siege+2+Official+Patches/;1374703;/browsefiles.html), GOOGLE (http://www.google.com/search?q=Freelancer+Mod+Manager)
Step 3: Crack the game: 1 (http://www.mediafire.com/?8erk8u3wwy6), 2 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FXDKNBNX), 3 (http://mihd.net/l69xnqv), GOOGLE (http://www.google.com/search?q=Dungeon+Siege+2+Crack)
Step 4: Get BattleLAN: 1 (http://mihd.net/biofla4), 2 (http://www.mediafire.com/?gv0fvueni8m), 3 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J6FBH3GV), GOOGLE (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22battlelan.zip%22)
Step 5: Find some people to play with. Every player needs to add the IP address of every other player to BattleLAN.
Step 6: Launch Dungeon Siege 2 and either create or join a LAN game. That's it!

NOTE: Dungeon Siege 2 can be run through Hamachi if you prefer using that, but multiplayer games are disabled if you have more than one network interface enabled. If you use Hamachi you know why this would cause you a problem, but I'm not going to go into the solition. If you really want to use Hamachi for this game Google it or just think for a while about the solution. Also, BattleLAN can cause the same potential security problem as Hamachi. See "Sins of a Solar Empire" tutorial above.

The Catch: The Siege Engine uses peer to peer networking for LAN games instead of client/server networking, so multiplayer games can only be as fast as the slowest client. If you're playing with a bunch of BitTorrenting pirates one of them might have BT running, causing a slow game for everybody.

Freelancer + Discovery Mod added: Sep. 1, 2008
Step 1: Download the game: TPB SEARCH (http://thepiratebay.org/search/Freelancer/0/7/400)
Step 2: Download the Freelancer Mod Manager: 1 (http://discoverygc.com/files/flmminstaller.exe), GOOGLE (http://www.google.com/search?q=Freelancer+Mod+Manager)
Step 3: Download Discovery Mod: 1 (http://www.discoveryfl.com/html/downloads.html), GOOGLE (http://www.google.com/search?q=Freelancer+Discovery+Mod)
Step 4: Download Unofficial Master Server Mod: 1 (http://www.freelancerserver.de/download/gls_workaround.zip.flmod), 2 (http://files.filefront.com/gls+workaroundzipflmod/;10028454;/fileinfo.html), 3, GOOGLE (http://rapidshare.com/files/108368454/gls_workaround.zip.flmod.html)
Step 5: Install the mods with Freelancer Mod Manager, Discovery first, Master Server fix second. If you do this the other way around your game will be BROKEN.
Step 6: Start the game and browse for servers. The best one is Discovery RP 24/7, it usually has at least 100 players online.

NOTE: Installing the Discovery mod is optional, but recommended. The Discovery mod is to Freelancer is pretty much what the Oblivion Lost mod is to S.T.A.L.K.E.R., it doesn't drastically modify gameplay, but more expands and improves gameplay to what the game "could have been" if more time could have been spend on it before release.

The Catch: Having Discovery mod intalled means you can only connect to Discovery mod servers, if you attempt to connect to a non Discovery server the server will see the mod as a hack and instantly and permanently ban you. This isn't much of a problem however, as nearly all of the remaining Freelancer players only play on Discovery RP 24/7. To play on unmodified servers disable Discovery and the Master Server fix, and then re-enable the Master Server fix. Windows Vista also has broken multiplayer in this game due to the fact that it has removed some of Windows XP's networking capability. There is a tutorial for getting the game working on Vista here that allegedly works, I tried it and it didn't work for me.
Is pirate wiki still running? I thought it was a part of the previous suprbay that burned?
Also you may want to change your title. It makes it sound that he has RIP. I don't know anything about that but i really hope he hasn't.
You don't pay tribute only to someone who died, but I'll change it just in case.

Press Start -> Run
Type: cmd
(a command prompt will open)
Type: echo 127.0.0.1 nwmaster.bioware.com >> %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Vista64 Instructions:
Quote:
Disable UAC
Press Start -> Run

There is a tutorial for getting the game working on Vista here that allegedly works, I tried it and it didn't work for me.

nice thanks Blush
