I really like Emily. The MST3K reboot episodes have a very different feel to the humor that I thought was because the new performers and writers are 20 years younger but Emily actually has the same kind of midwest vibe as the classic original MST3K. All of the reboot performers and writers feel like they come from Los Angeles and New York even if they're transplants who moved there for their careers. As far as I can tell, all of the original MST3K people other than Joel who moved to the west coast, and Frank who was a Minnesota transplant that grew up in New York still live in Minneapolis. A lot of humor from the original MST3K and Rifftrax is grounded in a very midwestern sensibility and has a ton of references to specific midwestern locations. Emily made me realize that's at least as much of a factor in the changed vibe of the new MST3K iterations as age.

As a die-hard MST3K fan i've hit my first roadblock. The replacement for Crow sounds like Milhouse.

No-one has mentioned in this thred why there's a new Crow, or why the skits seemed a strange scramble of characters. Nate Begle *was* Crow for touring and was fantastic. For no available reason (i've looked) he's gone forever, as of Feb this year. On the day(s) on tour when Nate was unavailable his understudy Kelsey filled in fine. Now Kelsey is filling in on shows that Nate recorded last year. Feel sorry that the MST3K team had to go into disaster control, and we may never know why.

The only reason I can think for the gravelly Crow voice is that Kelsey and Emily are hard to differentiate when speaking naturally.

Of course, lots of good things - great riffs and Emily is good as always.

Is Jonah Ray no longer part of this new season? I assume he still is, just that the host alternates between Jonah and Emily now?

yep. he hosted the first two. Joel is supposed to be on one of the episodes this season, too
