Robert, are you also in canada?
Yes, I live in Canada. Here in Canada, you get DMCA warning letters, though I never got disconnected by my ISP.
Maybe I am exaggerating. The watchdog groups around here do their jobs with utmost distinction, and I guess I should applaud their effectiveness, but because I have to, I have to make preparations for if/when I cannot download from The Pirate Bay.
It's just this, but don't take this for the Gospel truth: people here are "honest," but they have no compunctions against torrents. Some just don't reveal it because it's like saying "I masturbate three times a day."
And about 2009, the telecommunication giants, Bell and Rogers among others, have proposed to force their "tenant" ISP companies to cap their clients' services to 60GB, instead of unlimited. They failed, but it got us thinking.
Not many Canadians knew about this. The more we stay in the dark, the lesser we know about the inner workings of the government or the corporations that plotting and scheming against those who are struggling, and I mean struggling.
If you're into this kind of stuff, go to
www.openmedia.ca and see the truth about the situation. It's not as bad as the USA or the UK, but it's getting there.
Just that if you want to obtain your habits, get a library card and a nice DVD-ripping program like Handbrake. When I got DMCA notices from my ISP, I stopped downloading movies and started ripping. Libraries over here on Ontario have a respectable collection of newly-released DVDs. I'm sure Blu-Rays will follow suit as well.
I don't mean to scare you, as I still didn't yet manage to be caught downloading wrestling, TV shows, software, and stuff I can't find in the library, but just have that option ready.
Hope this helps.
