What are the best non Hollywood movies you can think of ? lets create this thread to help each other find good films that Hollywood didnt make . So tell us about British movies or any others that need subtitles
please give a link to the movie you mention either imdb or wikipedia
thanks
I will start with
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downfall_(2004_film) a good film about Hitlers last days ( unless he escaped to South America !! )
Are anime movies welcome?
If so, then I would submit Grave of the Fireflies (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grave_of_the_Fireflies).
My submission comes from the fact that in war, the most that suffer are the civilians, and Grave of the Fireflies does well to spread that message.
And how apt that the 84th anniversary of the "Rape of Nanking" (1937) has just passed as well.
Im open to Anime although i dont watch many , yes Russian or any film so long as its good thanks , yes i enjoy war films i dont stick to any genre i just like good films : )
One more i will add that is a very good story and i think is a great movie
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068182/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 Aguirre Wrath of God : In the 16th century, the ruthless and insane Don Lope de Aguirre leads a Spanish expedition in search of El Dorado.

From the German side (like "Untergang"),
"Stalingrad" (1993!) and
"Das Boot" need to be mentioned.

That's Werner Herzog directing Klaus Kinski. Two madmen working together almost killing each other in the process. You might wanna check out
"Fitzcarraldo" too. Also, most of Herzog's output is good. Check out his documentaries as well.
"Grizzly man" is on
youtube

A/K/A the "Werner & Klaus Show" (ah, memories . . .) , all of which are worth a view.
One of my very favorite non-Hollywood films, and perhaps the greatest noir film ever made, is
The Third Man . Also made Anton Karas an international recording star.
