Hey PirateBay community, I saw that .piratebay was already claimed on Handshake by piratebay.red and wanted to see whether there was any interest in mirroring thepiratebay.org onto the .piratebay Handshake domain?

For context, Handshake is a protocol decentralizing the root zone (to decentralize control of domain names from ICANN) with the goal of replacing Certificate Authorities (to rehaul Internet security and privacy). From a practical standpoint, Handshake provides an uncensorable domain name that PirateBay can host its website on.

Since Handshake domains are top-level domains, you could also choose to host the website at just https://piratebay/, without any dots.

Is there someone who's in charge of managing PirateBay's domain names? I'd love to chat about what setting up an uncensorable mirror for PirateBay could look like :)

Thanks regardless!

P.S. To learn more, https://learn.namebase.io/ might help
We already have .onion addresses, which are quite "uncensorable".

*Oops sorry for the delayed reply, was expecting to get an email notification but guess those weren't sent.*

Ah do you mean piratebayo3klnzokct3wt5yyxb2vpebbuyjl7m623iaxmqhsd52coid.onion? I imagine https://piratebay/ might be a little easier to remember Smile

Definitely agree .onion addresses are quite uncensorable as well, in that case I think the only major 2 benefits with Handshake is:
  1. Giving visitors a way to reach PirateBay without going through Tor might be helpful too?
  2. An uncensorable human-readable name
Do you think those alone would still be worthwhile to explore further?

I thought this might be of interest too since Peter was trying to become a registrar through ICANN earlier this year, and maybe Handshake could help with that?
