The Wallflowers - Exit Wounds (2021) [FLAC]

Released ................ 2021
Source .................. WEB
Genre ................... rock, alternative, indie
Codec ................... FLAC
Bit Depth ............... 16 bits
Sampling Rate ........... 44.1 kHz

The brainchild of singer-songwriter Jakob Dylan, Exit Wounds is The Wallflowers‘ seventh studio album. After a decade-long hiatus, Dylan turned to ace producer Butch Walker to helm the reincarnation of the band. The resulting record is a rootsy, Americana sound with a deep emphasis on songwriting and melody. Dylan has never featured the same players on consecutive records, and the same pattern holds true for Exit Wounds. The songs are simmering and lush, and Dylan’s warm vocals sit comfortably above the mix.

Joyce Manor - Joyce Manor (Remastered) (2021) [FLAC]

Released ................ 2021 (original release 2011)
Source .................. WEB
Genre ................... punk, rock, indie
Codec ................... FLAC
Bit Depth ............... 16 bits
Sampling Rate ........... 44.1 kHz

Formed in Long Beach, CA in 2008, Joyce Manor is crunchy, catchy pop-punk that's so good it s almost a guilty pleasure. This four-piece band plays in their own style of easily likeable Jawbreaker-esque punk complete with driving bass lines, gang vocals, and bright guitars. Although definitely a departure from the hardcore that 6131 Records is known for, Joyce Manor's self-titled album will no doubt secure the label's growing reputation as having an ear for up-and-coming music. After hearing their demo, 6131 said, there was no way we could not work with them, and once you give a listen to Joyce Manor, you'll understand exactly what they meant.

Bridge City Sinners - Here's to the Devil (2019) [FLAC]

Released ................ 2019
Source .................. CD
Genre ................... folk, bluegrass, punk
Codec ................... FLAC
Bit Depth ............... 16 bits
Sampling Rate ........... 44.1 kHz

From the misty, pine-covered hills of the Pacific Northwest hail the Bridge City Sinners, who span the continuum from prohibition era jazz to Appalachian death folk. This traditional string band line up bends the meaning of the word genre, playing festivals from Punk Rock Bowling, to Muddy Roots, to Oregon’s Bluegrass String Summit. They started their journey by busking on sidewalks across the country and  now this supergroup of musicians find themselves on the national tour circuit. The Sinners still hold true to the DIY mentality of putting albums out on a self made record label, Flail Records. With talented musicianship and a punk as fuck! live show, this is one band you don’t want to miss.

Bettie Serveert - Inside Out (2020) [FLAC]

Released ................ 2020
Source .................. CD
Genre ................... indie rock
Codec ................... FLAC
Bit Depth ............... 16 bits
Sampling Rate ........... 44.1 kHz

Although they didn't cross over into the mainstream the way some of their peers did, Holland's Bettie Serveert became significant college radio stars during the '90s with their jangly, sweetly melodic, at times surprisingly muscular guitar pop. The band's sound was familiar, even archetypal, yet with its own distinct flavor that suggested any number of reference points and made exact comparisons elusive. Much of Bettie Serveert's reputation rested on their 1992 debut, Palomine, but they continued to maintain a cult audience throughout the decade and beyond as they continued to release quality indie rock records. Bettie Serveert - Inside Out is released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the bettie server fanclub Under The Surface.

Descendents - 9th & Walnut (2021) [FLAC]

Released ................ 2021
Source .................. CD
Genre ................... punk, rock
Codec ................... FLAC
Bit Depth ............... 16 bits
Sampling Rate ........... 44.1 kHz

Archive collection from the punk legends. Formed in L.A.'s South Bay in 1978, Descendents began as a power trio featuring bassist Tony Lombardo, drummer Bill Stevenson, and guitarist Frank Navetta. The band recruited vocalist Milo Aukerman in 1980 and began establishing themselves as major players in the Southern California Punk movement. Over the years, the band has sustained a potent chemistry and shared vision, further cementing them as punk legends. In 2002, the original four-piece lineup - Frank Navetta, Tony Lombardo, Bill Stevenson, and Milo Aukerman - got back into the studio to finally record their first-ever songs. The songs were written by the band from 1977 through 1980, before recording the Fat EP (1981) and the Milo Goes to College LP (1982). Put simply, this is the Descendents' earliest material, representing a "lost" pre-MGTC album. Most of these songs have not been heard-until now. Every element of Descendents' genre-creating sound is here: Stevenson's hyper-caffeinated surf-beats, Lombardo's intrepid bass, Navetta's crunching attack, Aukerman's impassioned, infinitely relatable singing-and all those great melodies and harmonies.

Tears For Fears - Live at Massey Hall, Toronto, Canada 1985 (2021) [FLAC]

Released ................ 2021
Source .................. CD
Genre ................... rock, new wave, synth-pop
Codec ................... FLAC
Bit Depth ............... 16 bits
Sampling Rate ........... 44.1 kHz

Live At Massey Hall captures the British rockers supporting sophomore album Songs from the Big Chair as it starts to take off worldwide. When the group started a four-date stand at the Toronto theatre at the end of May 1985, “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” was on its way to topping the U.S. charts. (“Shout” would follow later that summer.) Indeed, nearly all of the album is featured in the set, including “Rule the World,” “Shout,” singles “Head Over Heels,” “Mothers Talk” and “I Believe,” and favorite album tracks “The Working Hour” and “Broken.” The rest of the set features the cream of TFF’s 1983 debut The Hurting, including “Mad World,” “Pale Shelter” and “Memories Fade.” The expanded concert line-up of the group at Massey – core members Roland Orzabal (vocals/guitar) and Curt Smith (vocals/bass), in-studio sidemen Ian Stanley (keyboards), Manny Elias (drums) and Will Gregory (saxophone), guitarist Andy Sanders and second keyboardist Nicky Holland (a key member of sessions for 1989 follow-up The Seeds of Love) – has been heard on official releases before. Footage from the shows appeared in the Scenes from the Big Chair documentary, and six tracks were included on the Big Chair box set released in 2014. (Four of them had been heard before that, on a Canadian promo disc in 1986.) The material on this set, however, has been newly mixed from recently-located multitrack tapes, offering the first optimized listening experience for a classic Tears for Fears concert. All tracks recorded live at Massey Hall, Toronto, Ontario, Canada – 5/29-6/1/1985.

Prince - Welcome 2 America (2021) [FLAC]

Released ................ 2021
Source .................. WEB
Genre ................... funk, soul, rhythm and blues
Codec ................... FLAC
Bit Depth ............... 16 bits
Sampling Rate ........... 44.1 kHz

Welcome 2 America has been announced for release in July 2021. It is the first full previously-unreleased studio album of Prince material to be released posthumously, and the tenth posthumous album release overall. Recorded in 2010, the album was tentatively planned for release in 2011, likely as a follow-up to 20Ten and in conjunction with the Welcome 2 America Tour, which ran from December 2010 to May 2011. The album was abandoned at the time for unknown reasons. Recorded in the spring of 2010 and then mysteriously abandoned by Prince before its release, the statement album Welcome 2 America documents Prince’s concerns, hopes, and visions for a shifting society, presciently foreshadowing an era of political division, disinformation, and a renewed fight for racial justice. The album features some of Prince’s only studio collaborations with the bassist Tal Wilkenfeld, drummer Chris Coleman, and engineer Jason Agel, with additional contributions from New Power Generation singers Shelby J, Liv Warfield, and Elisa Fiorillo and keyboardist Morris Hayes, who Prince also recruited to co-produce the album.

Son Volt - Electro Melodier (2021) [FLAC]

Released ................ 2021
Source .................. WEB
Genre ................... singer-songwriter, indie rock
Codec ................... FLAC
Bit Depth ............... 16 bits
Sampling Rate ........... 44.1 kHz

After years of writing about class and politics in a manner that was recognizable but abstract, Jay Farrar decided it was time to get down to brass tacks on Son Volt's 2019's album Union, where he delivered thirteen songs informed by the chaos and division that gripped America under Donald Trump. Two years later, too much of what was bothering Farrar hasn't gotten better while other problems have been added to the deck, so he's back in message mode on Son Volt's 2021 follow-up, Electro Melodier. As on Union, Farrar hardly sounds dogmatic, but he also sounds like he wants us to know exactly what he's singing about no matter how artful his approach, which has not always been the case since he left Uncle Tupelo to have full control over his band. Electro Melodier also manages to be a better album than Union; the songs are, for the most part, better thought out and "These Are The Times," "Living in the USA," and "Diamonds and Cigarettes" make their statements with intelligence and grace (and without hectoring), and "War on Misery" finds room to make a perfectly reasonable demand for joy as "The Globe/Prelude" asks for a societal togetherness that it would be hard to expect from Farrar in the past. Farrar and his band don't call up the anthemic sound of classic Son Volt albums like Trace or Wide Swing Tremolo, opting instead for a more compact and intimate approach, but the arrangements are solid and the band plays with a tight authority, while Mark Spencer's keyboards bring out an R&B undercurrent that blends well with Farrar's resonant, soulful vocals. As on Union, Electro Melodier sounds more like the work of a commentator than an activist, but he has something to say and he says it with intelligence and eloquence, and as his hero Woody Guthrie proved ages ago, that's no small thing.
