The senior Iranian commander assassinated under the orders of US President Donald Trump did not pose a threat to the US, according to a former CIA officer.

Trump falsely claimed Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, who had played a major role in defending Iran against its enemies and assisting regional countries fight foreign occupation and terrorists, posed a threat.

Former CIA officer Phil Giraldi told RonPaul Institute in an interview on Monday that Soleimani posed no threat of any kind to the US, and whatever was claimed about him were lies.

Quote:“The reality is here that they been lying to us right from the beginning. There was no imminent threat of any kind.”

Giraldi described Trump's authorization of the assassination of Gen. Soleimani as a "horrific" crime, violating laws and morals.

Quote:“The United States has done something horrific. We have assassinated an official of a foreign government. We did this callously with fore-thought, and in violation of international law and basic morality.”

Giraldi said the truth of the matter is not only was Soleimani’s assassination premeditated, but also the targeted killing of other top Iranian commanders was part of the plan.

Quote:“There is plenty of evidence to suggest this was a plan to kill this guy and others in the leadership.”

Giraldi condemned the Soleimani assassination saying:

Quote:“We are not a force for good. This is just incredible. This is something that I as an American growing up would have never expected my government to do. We're in a different game now and Americans have to wake up as to how horrific it is."
