I've been working hard on both a subreddit and a blog.  I would love to drive some traffic to one of them (preferably both) but I'm  not sure how to go about it
Any suggestions would be great
Include it as .txt in the directory/folder you upload with your torrents, Use some back story as well (just links = spam)

Does that actually work ?
I learned a lot about uploaders from the readme.txt... Not only for instructions, but they give info abut themselves...
You're asking about marketing, and the basic lesson is: Watch how the other kids play, then go along. Make your gang sound cool, be creative or just get inspiration from release groups like SkidRow and FitGirl (to mention the game scene), use text, sound, video, extras, demos, prizes, all at once!

But real mass marketing is about money; you need to tip the celebrities and doormen on the cyberroad. YouTube, FaceBook, etc.

Sometimes. Market it as a premier site for whatever content, and make sure you have plenty already on there.
Keep in mind that methods depend on markets.
They can be general, niche, demographic, elite, etc.

And you need a hook.
Something to make your product stand out.
Not necessarily to everyone, but to your chosen market.

Also:
You need a First Follower.
Someone to act as cheerleader. Most try fake accounts, but are usually spotted due to lack of cred.
