usability/popads (site opens new windows)
#1
It really slows me down that the site opens up new windows. (Or I should say it tries to, they are closed for me [not sure if by Firefox or my Adblock Plus addon].) I'm poor so my computer is old, and I wish I didn't have to wait like 15 seconds while the new Firefox windows the site opens to be closed. Any advice, please? Is there another addon I can use to speed this up, perhaps by preventing the new windows being opened by the site?

NoScript will prevent the javascript that opens the windows from loading in the first place. A side effect is that you won't be able to view file lists, change pages in comments, or leave comments, but NoScript will let you temporarily enable javascript when needed.

Thank you very much, Moe! I tried NoScript for a minute (again, I've tried it briefly before).

But I think I prefer the inconvenience of my original issue, to making all my other sites work (which they didn't with NoScript, and I just don't have time to learn to configure it to let all the other sites I go to work).

There's no configuration involved, and it's quite user friendly. I use NS all the time but allow the sites I visit regularly (like this forum for example). Once you've got NS enabled, click on the S! symbol in the top left hand corner of the page (to the left of the url). You can 'temporarily allow thepiratebay.org' (or even 'allow tpb.org') for when you want to comment etc, then select 'forbid tpb.org' when you're done so you don't get the windows opening up again. It can be a pain constantly allowing/forbidding tpb, but it depends on how often you use the site to comment/view filelists etc. For all the other sites you use, click on the S! on each of those, but select 'allow nameofsite' - NS will remember and it'll be permanently allowed until you decide to forbid it - meaning those sites will always work for you once you've selected 'allow.'

I'm touched, Spud17, thank you very much for taking the time to explain it so simply.

Since I only really care about the issue I posted about (and because I've got no S! symbol and don't want to the NS message taking up vertical space), I've started selecting the "Allow all this page" option on my other pages. Over the long run, this will save me time and I deeply appreciate the advice!

Whenever I search for something today, I can't click anywhere on the search result page without an advertisement for virus removal popping up. I can't click into the search field to perform another search, can't click on torrent names to open those pages, and can't even click into empty space without bringing up this advertisement. I hate to sound dramatic, but this does make the site unusable at this time. I am fine with these ads popping up once when you click on the page, I'm used to that over the past month or so, but to not allow me to click on any torrent result on a torrenting website seems a bit counter-intuitive.

The ads themselves are also fairly annoying, constantly going fullscreen (need to hit esc just to see my windows again) and reloading until you are able to click the "prevent this page from creating additional dialogues." They're also fairly loud, complete with a voice telling me that I have viruses.

Yep, and it's annoying as hell. Install adblock and NoScript. When browsing TPB, 'forbid' the site (on NS), which will prevent the ads popping up. If you want to view the filelist, or log in to upload/leave a comment, you'll need to 'allow' the site. If you use TPB mainly for browsing/downloading, I'd recommend using a clean TPB proxy, such as https://tpb.run/  << that's the kanyebay site, now all matrixy.

I don't get them with no script and adblock plus.
Just a blank pop up window I don't even see it.
But lets be honest, someone has to pay for us to steal back from these corporate thieves.
Its not free. Yes we share, but someone has to pony up to get the ability for us to share.
I wish I understood bit coin, I would give 50 bucks right now.
But I don't understand it or how to use it.

All over tpb when clicking on various links, such as add comment, browse torrents, categories, torrent page links in the results, and even the magnet links all frequently open a new tap page containing a malware website. and it shifts the current tab to a new tab and having the malware website in your original tab. This makes it so you have to quickly close the malware tab but you cannot click back on your browser on the tpb page you were originally on if you needed to because that page is now the "new tab" like if that was the first page of the tab.

This has been going on for quite some time. Since it seems to not have been addressed, I am bringing it to your attention

Yes, it has been doing this a while. I use TOR with adblock plus and I still get affected by this odd stuff.
