Is there anyway to strip the drm of iplayer download?

Try get_iplayer. It's command line but you can set it you automatically download the best quality, plus subtitles, whole boxsets/series and much more. It works great in the UK and it will work with a VPN but the BBC is good at blocking a lot of IP addresses from known proxies.
