What do you think of this forum, and how does it compare to other torrent site forums? Staff were discussing this topic quite recently and it'd be interesting to hear your thoughts on it.
A torrent site forum is nothing without its members, and compared to non-torrenting forums, one good thing about those centred around filesharing, this one in particular, is that snobs with tiny peeners, who play oneupmanship games and delight in pointing out another's grammatical or spelling errors, tend to get pounced on pretty quickly by other members, who remind them what pirating, and the spirit of pirating is about, and especially considering the connection to the world's largest filesharing site, where members come from all over the planet and aren't all native English speakers. That said, I'm glad SB is an English-language forum and isn't cluttered to death with other-language sub-forums.
In the Requests Forum, members are allowed to post torrent links to sites other than thepiratebay, but on some sites, you're not allowed to post links to other sites, and that kinda makes me think those sites don't really understand the ethos of it all, as the only ones missing out under that policy, are the pirates.
Members cannot close/lock their own threads on SB, or have them trashed, and many don't understand why this is actually a good idea which benefits the forum. On one torrent forum I sometimes visit, there was an interesting political discussion taking place and spent a good hour typing out a reply, but when I went to post it, the thread had been closed by the OP because it went off-topic and they couldn't handle it. On another site, I posted serious replies to several topical threads, only for them to get completely trashed the next day because the OP was bored and didn't want to keep an eye on their own thread.
I'm sure some of you have experienced this yourselves and will agree it can be infuriating, and makes any further contributions utterly pointless. Not having the option to delete, sometimes ensures the OP puts some thought into their thread to begin with (or it should do at least), and any wincing enbarrassment is often their own fault. Anyway, threads that drastically deteriorate here tend to get modded by staff if the OP fails to keep it on topic, plus there's always The Void.
I like The Void and its banter, it offers mindless escapism and fun in an otherwise hard or tiring day. Aidz, silliness, the ocassional spammer whose product is premium void food, and sometimes serious discussion that's gotten way too overheated for the main forum, are all in The Void. Some complain that The Void isn't what it used to be, but I've asked around and the consensus is that there has never really been a golden era in that forum, just some confused, romantic memories. For those who'd like to see more intelligent, serious discussion taking place on the main forum.... those threads aren't going to write themselves.
Another thing I like about SB is that overall, most members treat others as they want to be treated themselves, and are fairly respectful towards those with differing opinions. The community is strong here, and with some members - like Murlok - having been here since the very beginning, it's a well established one, which obviously puts the forum at an advantage over some of the newer ones.
To recap, tell us what you think of Suprbay, compared to other torrent site forums. This is not a complaints thread, and if you wish to report a torrent, comment, whatever, post it in the appropriate forum, and if you have a suggestion for the site, then post in the suggestions forum, and not here.
