Your IQ
#1
What do you think your IQ is?

0-70 - Completely deficient
70 - 79 - Borderline deficiency
80 - 89 - Dullness
90 - 109 - Normal or average intelligence
110 - 114 - Superior intelligence
115-124 - Above average (e.g., university students)
125-134 - Gifted (e.g., post-graduate students)
135-144 - Highly gifted (e.g., intellectuals)
145-154 - Genius (e.g., professors)
155-164 - Genius (e.g., Nobel Prize winners)
165-179 - High genius180-200
Highest genius>200 - "Unmeasurable genius"

Noone knows for sure, but Einstien's IQ was estimated at 160.

I think IQ is just a part of an overall intelligence. Also, different IQ tests yield different results...

About intelligence, It's not what you have , it's how you use it. I know people with high IQ's that are stupid, lower IQ's running companies. James Woods says his IQ is in the 180's... Again. How you apply.

I remember taking an IQ test back around 2010... The grid you used is how it scored my test (there is another type that scores genius at 130 and up... I didn't take that one as I thought it would be harder to score. I'll admit I scored a 142. I was pissed that I missed genius by 3 points.

HOWEVER, if you go by some of my foolish posts in the past(and present), I'd probably be in the negative 20's.

This topic intrigues me, so I'll but the friendly banter aside. I honestly don't believe people are smart or stupid... Intelligence is dynamic and people have strengths and weaknesses. Just because you are good at something I am not, doesn't make you smarter (or vice versa). You just have a strength in a different area. Just god given talent. What you do with it makes you... Like Larry Bird (if you're talking talent), worked hard with little, became epic. MJ, had talent, worked hard, became really epic. Other players have talent but no work ethic... I can't think of their names because they rode the bench and didn't become epic.

The stupidity/intelligence I believe works more like a verb than a noun. For example. Let's say, as an example in my statement above you know German, and I don't .

If I don;t want to learn German, then no harm no foul. If I want to learn German, make a valid effort but fail. Im still acting intelligently since I tried to better myself. If I wanted to learn, but said "fuck it, I can't" That's stupidity in action since I haven't tried.

So ya, IQ is a measurement that only gives a fraction of a persons capabilities. If you have a low one, no worries, with hard work you can improve. I have a decent IQ, and sometimes I'm the dumbest person I know. All relative bro, all relative...

The biggest problem with IQ tests, is that they are very much dependent on the language and culture of both the test and subject, among other flaws. Another big problem is dealing with high-functioning autism (e.g. Asperger's Syndrome), ADD, and ADHD subjects, although the more modern versions of the WISC tests are definitely trying to evolve, to take this into account.

That said, I tested at the maximum the WISC-R (Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children, Revised) measures for, which I *believe* was about 150-160 at the time (it varies, each iteration of the test), so I qualify as "genius", I guess... Except I never did anything with it, really, beyond a healthy amateur interest in astronomy, astrophysics, and physics in general. REAL genius lies in how you use what you have, in my opinion, and I certainly don't qualify for the term, using that measure =). IQ tests are nearly meaningless, beyond gaining Mensa membership.

BTW, if you don't want to join Mensa, never take their test (or, at least, don't do "too well" ^^')! Those pukes will NOT leave me alone and it's been decades since I made that mistake; ugh. They're worse than Mormons, when they get into an evangelizing fervor...

OK, so I guess people didn't understand the question. I asked 'What do you think your IQ is?' Not what is wrong with IQ tests. But thanks for the high IQ responses. lol

There answers do answer your questions and put your IQ on a similar level.

YA, because people with more intelligence know that true intelligence starts with the realization that you don't know everything. That's why I wanted to mention that IQ tests aren't the end all be all... Not trying to knock IQ tests themselves; just trying to be as real and fair as I can be. Bozobub appears to have agreed.

Like he says, its how you use it. Einstein you say was in the 160's... Actor James Woods is said to be in the 180's(see link).

If I were to guess, IQ measures more how easy it would be to learn, not how smart you are. Like some bodybuilders have better genetics than others and can build muscle more easily.

Take this with a grain of salt. My 142 matches Steve MArtin... But Harvard graduate Natalie Portman is 140 (less than me???). It's painfully obvious that she can use her intelligence level more efficiently than I... Even though I scored higher, NO WAY will I concede that I'm smarter than she is.

It don't matter, it is like trying to Test Siri's IQ it is so variable. I scored around the high genius to genius range.

This. I scored ridiculously high on a few of those tests back before senility took hold of me, but I can't help thinking this mythic thing called IQ means nothing. So count me for 0, or the square root of -1, or whatever else you care to.

Heh, sorry Joe... Still derailing from your original question.

I googled "do IQ tests mean anything" and came up with this:

Search Results
An Intelligence Quotient, or IQ, is a measure of what psychologists call our "fluid and crystallized intelligence." ... IQ is really a measure of how well you do on a test compared with other people your age. Scores are generally shown on a bell curve. The average score is 100.

So again, I believe it measures how easy or difficult it is to learn, not how smart you are.

I do have to point out, since it's an IQ thread, that you spelled 'there' wrong. Tongue

But it's still mostly arguing about IQ tests, which isn't what I asked.

LZA eventually said his was 142.

Bozobub is at 150-160.

Contrail puts his around 160-170.

Just wondering what other people though theirs was. That's all.
