Windows 7 update KB4480970 causes havoc

I've just encountered this problem first hand.  Spent several hours trying to get down to the bottom of a serious networking issue happening between Windows 7 and Kodi.  Turns up this update screwed it all up for me, was able to pinpoint the problem eventually and have since removed this update.  Not usually do I see this sort of thing happen but I guess this is pretty bad.  Turns out my Kodi box wasn't able to network with my Windows 7 PC and was unable to see the shared folders on the network.  As soon as removing update KB4480970 from the system and doing a reboot, was then able to see the folders again.

Haven't a clue what Microsoft are up to now but this is disgraceful really, just can't imagine what they are thinking really, talk about messing up and causing so many problems.  I've been fine for years now with all the updates that have been released have never seen anything like this before.

Never had an issue where a linux update borked my entire setup.

Just another day in Redmond's mondo. Bugs can only be avoided by carefully hand picking updates, after letting others test them a few days.
For W7 I suggest you install SP1 and a few optionals if you need, like VC and .Net, but never 1033...

I'm guessing from the modification to my reputation that the OP didn't like my response. Well, I'm just being honest. I used windows for years at home and at work. In 2006 I stopped using it at home. I was forced to continue fixing other people's windows problems though. Now that I no longer work with windows I have to read about everyone's tech problems. Every time someone has some absurd tech issue like they got a virus from a torrent or a simple update destroyed their entire OS, it is widows. 13 years ago I decided to choose running a secure and functional OS over playing games. Forgive me if I lack sympathy for people who continue to chose playing games over a working OS.

I've removed this update now on 2 different Windows 7 machines, I suggest to anybody who reads my thread to do the same.  It has caused serious networking issues.  The other day was trying to network from Windows 10 to Windows 7 and it was completely blocked from access.  Until removing the said update, then and only then was I able to connect my Windows network again.  It seems that Microsoft screwed up this time.  Microsoft are not perfect no, usually things are fine with me.  For years Windows 7 has been really great but sadly this time it wasn't.  Just spreading the word, please if you see that you're having problems then just remove it and everything will go away

Don't be so fond of Linux, the NSA owns that too; wanna be safe, invest on OS/2 Warp or Amiga OS - good luck finding software, not to mention hardware.

This is a tired refrain. Of course the NSA can own all types of OS. That doesn't mean you should use Windows. Linux is much more secure than Windows, not to mention advantages in speed and stability. So the choice is between a more secure and less secure OS. I'll take the more secure.
