Why do some torrrents come fast and others really slow.

Yesterday I had 2 downloads and both only had 1 seed and both were apx. 1.1g

The 1st I got in about 10 mins.   The 2nd took 7 hours.

Why such a big difference? Was the seed on the 2nd one on low bandwidth?

Going by what you describe, was the slower one less seeded? Meaning, were there fewer people to take the file from?

Since you say the first one was OK, I'd say it wasn't your bandwidth.

They both had only 1 seed and zero lechers.

I've noted that sometimes the numbers listed can be inaccurate. But going by face value, if they were the same, maybe the slower torrent and maybe they were uloading from their CPU (without a seedbox) and their bandwith may be slower? That's just my guess

How does a seedbox work?

As bittorrent is a peer to peer protocol, your download speeds will be limited to your connected peers' upload speeds, especially if there is only one.

Since many ISPs have upload speeds that are only a fraction of the download speed, they can't share very fast.

The exceptions are those who are lucky enough to have an ISP that has upload speeds as fast as their download speeds, or those with a "seedbox" as LZA mentioned.

A "seedbox" runs a torrent client just like your desktop computer except it is located in a data center somewhere else on the planet connected to a faster network than is available to most residences. They are rented for a few dollars a month.
