Why do many torrents have a dual version with [TGx]?
#1
Many torrents have two identical versions with exactly the same name, except one of them ends with [TGx].
By identical I mean same quality, date and size, just one name as mentioned ends with that word.

Do you know what is the reason for it?

TGx is a torrent group signature. It is usual on those groups to "sign" any upload for many reasons:

1. To make it clear who uploaded. The "scene" is competitive and groups get reputation for good quality uploads they swear to.
2. Depending on where / how it was uploaded, group sig may be encouraged or not. Depending on who will potentially search for a title, it may make things easier or not.
3. Frequently, some other group or individual may "pirate" a torrent, by changing or just removing the sig. Or it's the case some uploader is helping other but for people to know it's not the same torrent, may skip/change/add the sig (unprobable, as goups like their sigs). Torrent redundancy is bad, but title duplicity may be worse, I guess.

But the scene is highly secretive of its uploads so some of this stuff may be leaked down the public levels and be "re-released."

The "real" scene frowns upon this kind of stuff.

It has something to do with Torrent Galaxy, there is somebody who has a Torrent Galaxy account and what they do is grab other people's torrents and then add a text file that says Torrent Galaxy with .txt at the end which then modifies the torrent making it slightly larger so it can be reprocessed.  The uploader simply just uploads it again and puts in on Torrent Galaxy and also other sites like TPB for example and does it like that all the time.  They seem to do it a lot with movies and TV programmes and all kinds of things.  Personally I wouldn't bother downloading from anything that has that [TGx] on the end it simply just means "Torrent Galaxy" and nothing else probably they are just trying to promote that site more but personally I don't use it and don't care about the place at all I'm happy using TPB myself and find no need to go running there to use it would most probably be denied to have an account anyway...

Isn't it best just to stick to high count? For example, in the original screenshot one would want to download [Tgx] for the H264 version, but not [Tgx] for the x265 version, right?

Well no because there really is no such thing.  The high count thing you mention, anybody can do that who can create their own tracker.  If you have those skills and know what you're doing you can make a tracker and add anything you want to it.  Then once you've made a few torrents you can add and bump up as many seeds as you want and just put a massive amount.  The tracker (which you've created yourself) can fool the entire torrent into thinking there's massive seeds but in reality those seeds are fake.  Having the skills to do that you can fool a massive amount of people into thinking that your torrent is the most popular of them all.  There's many who have done this now for years and years, really having a massive seed and leech account means nothing and people will do anything they can to make themselves look popular and go to as many extremes as possible.

If you take this torrent for example and I'll explain:

https://thepiratebay.org/description.php?id=67957601

It is somebody else's torrent that they have downloaded from and reuploaded it by changing the hash around by adding in a Torrent Galaxy .txt text file to make the hash different...

If you look at the actual amount of seeds there is it's totally fake and I'll explain why...  They are using a tracker which they control so they can bump up the seeds to a huge amount..

They take other people's torrent and then upload them pretending to be the one who made it and adding all kinds of different sites onto the tracker list so it will announce with them which includes TPB and Torrent Galaxy and probably some other sites...

It's very obvious that it's fake because to start with the film is completely unknown, I can't say I've heard of it and I upload lots of films all the time nearly.  Again the quality is totally bad I mean can you even imagine trying to watch some movie file this size it's a complete joke if I'm honest...  All those people aren't going to download this, I'm afraid the whole thing is as fake as a rake.  I mean the content you can watch the movie but really if you had a good TV why on earth would you watch this junk rip?

It's not something that I would watch myself and there's not going to be hundreds of people downloading it either, it obviously has a fake tracker running to bump up a huge seed and leech stat.

Best thing in my opinion is download something decent and just ignore this kind of thing, it's obviously rubbish and a waste of time, I mean seriously I've never heard of this film it must be really terrible..

I agree that the suffix [whatever] isn't really much relevant - Better check the uploader, some have pink/green skulls, others are just consistent in quality.
Whatever you do, I suggest to avoid 1xBet and any other excessive advertising torrents. They ruin the experience.

I have no idea why anyone would go to a Rooskie sports betting site to look for torrents, but yeah, I'm sure that's good advice.

I mean to avoid the torrents infested with 1xBet adverts, they're annoying.  Big Grin
If they want to get gambler's money, should at least invest in decent publicity.
Of course many omit that in the title/info and we end wasting bandwidth (and time) just to delete that torrent and look for another, clean one.

But yeah, funny. Glad to hear from you, Cap!
