Why are 90% of torrents magnet links only?

I always say every torrent site (like this) should provide its own tracking, this is the failing of the system. I just thought this would not be clear to users, and there are spam download links.

Torrent files and magnet links have nothing to do with trackers.  Either can include a tracker list as part of the torrent or link, but they are not required.

Operating a tracker is hardly necessary.  That is why TPB shut theirs down long before they stopped serving torrent files.

I have a question: I got fucked once using a download from another site. TBP was down and I wanted a movie. Since my download was straid from site to computer, my uTorrent didn't kick on. This ( I pieced together after I sobered up) is not good since the BT Torrent proxy was loaded onto Utorrent, and by bypassing that, my IP address was visible.  I guess if my whole computer was protected by a VPN, this wouldn't have happened.

For this reason, though, I was under the impression that magnet links were no only much better for the hosting site, but safer for the downloader as well??? I guess I made a rookie mistake, but D/Ling a magnet from under a proxy was idiot proof (my impressions, anyway)

I agree with Picklock; but I can't hijack this thread so I'll ask my specific question under my own thread... Firefox has adblock plus. my A+++++ recommendation if you hate seeing the ads. I don't mind looking at the pics, but those sneaky pop ups that generate from them are ......a PITA  at best.   I agree with Sid wholeheartedly. At best, accidentally clicking is a no good pain in the ass, at best, you're asking the specialists here or elsewhere to help clean the shit off your system.

What a handy little site.
For instance uTorrent v2.2.1 does not list the files inside a torrent when loading a magnet link at first, you have to start downloading the torrent for them to show up.
