Which fighting game first introduced combos?

For those who don't know, "combos," in the context of combination attacks, are a succession of strikes that can take a lot of damage to an opponent in a fighting game more than if you just attack the opponent with individual strikes. For example, a left jab, a right jab, and a kick to the face, while done in rapid succession, can deal more damage and can finish the match quicker than if you just do it individually, which is what I said.

For those who do know, what is the first fighting game that introduces it?

As far as I can tell, Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, the first sequel to the original Street Fighter game, was the first that I played that exposed me to the concept. It's just that the computer's AI never did too many good ones, even at the most difficult mode that you can select, but they play dirty. However, that last point is not part of the discussion, so my bad.

So, did a game that predates Street Fighter II have the concept of combos? Was it Fatal Fury?

I think you are right that Street Fighter II was the first fighting game that popularized the concept of combos, but it was not the first one that implemented it, the earliest known competitive fighting game that used a combo system was Shanghai Kid, released in 1985 by Culture Brain. It had a feature called “rush-attacking” that allowed the player to perform a series of combos when a spiked speech balloon that reads “RUSH!” popped up during battle. Nowadays I started to explore some online slots as winspirit because wanna to make some lucky and easy to play.

Finally an answer!

Was "Shanghai Kid" for arcades, NES, or which system?

I loved Shanghai Kid as a kid. It was a groundbreaking arcade game that had amazing voice effects and combos. It was a shame that it never came out for NES or any other console. It was one of the best games in the Hiryū no Ken series.

OK, going to get the ROM image.

Thanks!

While we're on the subject, how do you make together combos? I never was good with combos, too much strategy; do you just look at what other people do it in the arcades, or what? I can't string together attacks to save my life.

I usually watch some YouTube videos of expert players and try to copy their moves. Sometimes I practice in training mode until I get the timing right. It takes a lot of patience and skill, but it’s worth it when you pull off a spectacular combo.
