Cowboys! Robots! Sex! Sex with cowboy robots! How could a show about all this be received as a prestige drama, and not just more trash TV? Simple: it’s not TV, it’s HBO, you uncultured swine. Wise up with Westworld!

HBO’s Westworld is based loosely on the Simpsons episode written by Michael Crichton in which malfunctioning Itchy & Scratchy robots take over Itchy & Scratchy Land (pretty sure we got that right). It’s a theme park, a vicious playground for the ultra-wealthy to get their jollies doing the one thing rich people have always wanted most… to, uh, be a part of a mediocre Western? Whatever the reason, Ed Harris is there, and Thandie Newton, and so is Anthony Hopkins, taking a rare break from Odinsleeping to Odinwalk through this performance.

I meant to actually watch this show, being a fan of the movie, as well as the cast (it looks like some of Hopkins' best work). I don't this will ruin that for me, but has anyone seen the show unriffed? How is it?

I don't know what the consensus was and wasn't interested in what other people thought, but that being said...I thought it was pretty wonderful.

Yeah, it's on the long to-watch list that gets longer because I've gotten into the habit of just running Rifftrax/MST3K all day while I'm working.

It's generally considered to be fantastic.

Personally, I thought it was one of the best shows in quite a while. The acting is top-notch, all around. It all fits together nicely and could have ended after the first season and you'd still feel like you saw a satisfying story, though I'm excited to see where it'll go next season.
