Volume XXXIX - The End...?
#1
As seen here, it seems this will be the last trove of new material.

Here's the included list of the eps we probably will never see an official release of:

Quote:Ep #201 Rocketship X-M
Ep #212 Godzilla Vs. Megalon
Ep #213 Godzilla Vs. The Sea Monster
Ep #309 The Amazing Colossal Man
Ep #311 It Conquered the World
Ep #416 Fire Maidens from Outer Space
Ep #418 The Eye Creatures
Ep #807 Terror from the Year 5000
Ep #809 I Was A Teenage Werewolf
Ep #905 The Deadly Bees
Ep #906 The Space Children
Ep #913 Quest of the Delta Knights

BUT they are releasing ALL the host segments for all of these as DVD extras in the upcoming collection. We have already seen some really interesting upgrade projects.  And in the style of DAP releases, someone will have to frankenstein these together for some sort of definitive scene releases.  I'm looking forward to that, especially hope that the encoder / our favorite eccentric FreshStep gets a wind of this.

Vol39 will be released Nov 21 2017 and have the following titles:
601 Girls Town
623 The Amazing Transparent Man
a13 Diabolik

Thankfully, 212.GodzillaVsMegalon was released on DVD before Rhino asked purchasers to destroy the discs since they didn't have the rights worked out. An encode of the Rhino DVD is in the Season02 pack:

The remaining unreleased titles are available from VHSrips shared below. Be sure to uncheck 601, 623 and a13 if you want to wait for encodes of the official DVDs in November:

Only 11 episodes not released officially … not bad at all. I just wish The Amazing Colossal Man had been one of the titles in the last batch.

The best part of this upcoming set: an official release of the bed-and-breakfast sketch — my favorite MST3K host segment by far! Smile

P.S. Shouldn't the thread title have the tag "MST3K" added to it? That'll make it easier to find in a search.

Thanks again for the VHSrip torrent, bsg. It's nice to have the best copies of these episodes in one place.

Those last 5 on the list are ones I was REALLY hoping for. Any reason on why they won't release them?

The same reason they don't release all of the ones on the list. They can't get the license from whoever currently holds the rights to the movie to release the episode.

The contracts on movies when they made the show only licensed the films for the broadcast of the episodes on television. Any additional home video or DVD releases required new license negotiations and new contracts.

You would think most of these wouldn't have problems. Especially Terror From the Year 5000. Quest of the Delta Knights is more or less the most recent so I can see why there.

Susan Nicholson Hofheinz (aka Susan Hart) owns most of the films on this list, and she won't even release the movies in pure uncut form.

Wade Williams owns Rocketship XM, says it's a fine film and wishes the MST version would disappear. A firm no go.

Toho owns Godzilla, and that's not happening.

Olive Films (licensed from Paramount) owns the Deadly Bees, Space Children, and Fire Maidens from Outer Space. Might have to wait for the deals to expire in 2018 and 2020.

As for Delta Knights... nobody knows who the hell owns it. Once that's nailed down we might see a release.

That's even stranger, to me, that someone owns the rights to some of these and won't release them in any way... simply holding rights to things while others do all the work is damn near free money, isn't it? Or am I missing something crucial here?

Susan Nicholson Hofheinz is a... well, special case. She's a model that married James H. Nicholson.

Inherited the rights to 11 films and sues anyone that uses any bit of them, even the trailers. She either wants an insane amount of money for the films or simply doesn't want anyone to see them, period. She won't even license uncut raw film releases.

Wade Williams has publicly stated he wishes he could destroy all copies of MST Rocketship XM.

Toho simply will never license Godzilla.

Other films have been hard to nab rights to. Soultaker and Final Sacrifice recently pulled rights back, and the Gamera set was a miracle because the license didn't have to go through the Japanese company but an American one that had distribution rights for a bit.
