Timmy Big Hands

I did another stupid thing and saved people the work of digging through the Internet Archive by collecting all of the text of the TimmyBigHands website into ebook form. Unlike the drastically smaller Film Crew website, there was lot more to this one, a lot of it was built on images (including comic strips by Patrick Brantseg and a lot of clipart) which - being from 2000 - were split into 4 or 5 different images for 56k download speeds, and there were a few things that were just missing. That said, it still totals to be around 300 pages of text that I went through and formatted. Given the size, I also didn't want to go through and stick in the art as well, especially since most of it was just clipart. I saved what I could, but there were a few things missing that cut some stuff out of at least one syrup ad, eliminated another syrup ad's usability entirely, and there was a whole missing chapter from one of the serial novels. (Not to mention the Flash games.) So I did what I could, but it is neither complete nor does it have all the images. That said, it's still pretty representative of the experience from the site.

Burying the lede, for those who don't know, Timmy Big Hands was a website put together by much of the MST3K crew after the show ended. Premiering in early 2000, it featured writing and art by Patrick Brantseg, Paul Chaplin, Bill Corbett, Kevin Murphy, and Mike Nelson. (Plus one guest essay by Mary Jo Pehl.) It was a comedy website featuring humorous essays, reviews, sports columns, serial novels, comic strips, ads, poetry, Flash "games", and other assorted stuff. It got a burst of popularity in the early internet before the guys all got busy with their own projects and decided they couldn't keep up on the site anymore, shutting it down a little over a year after it first opened. It was a vehicle that showed off the not-often-seen writing talents and styles of the various members of the MST3K staff.

I didn't see any obvious huge formatting problems, but tell me if you see anything that looks wonky and I'll try to update it.

It absolutely blows me away how much comedy material MKB have written, created, and produced in between all of their other major projects over the last few decades.

I really appreciate you working so hard to meticulously preserve as much of it as possible. I feel like you should have a special "Archivist" badge below your name by now.

Please give BadFilms a Rep Point if you inexplicably haven't done so already. Thank you!  Big Grin

They straight out said at the time that they shut down the site because they "couldn't figure out how to make money with it".

Don't sugar coat it.

While it wasn't making them much money, it wasn't costing them much money either; it's not like it was a horrible money sink or monetization was their only concern. The point is that they didn't have the time for it, as Mike stated in interviews, and they were all moving to different places and going their separate ways. It was eating up too much time and energy for what it was.

If anybody's interested, I downloaded the entire Timmy Big Hands website before it shut down. No further need to go the Internet Archive to look at a cached version:

Honestly, though, BadFilm's meticulously collected and formatted ebook is probably a better way to browse the site's content, unless you're just itching to play "Kill A Guy" one more time.
