Thoughts on Karl Marx
#1
So what did you guys think of the philosopher Karl Marx? His role in history changed the whole world, for better or worse. I believe if he had never existed, the whole world would be drastically different than ours today.

Any thoughts about him or his teachings/philosophy?

Karl Marx is well known for his ideas of communism and rebuked capitalism. Even though capitalism has proved to work in the United states, Communism has been seen to prosper well in the Eastern Asian countries like China. I stand to be corrected in saying that most of the ideologies practiced by Marxists  is rather just a piece of the ice berg. If Karl Marx was to rise from the dead and see the way the world is running, he would be completely traumatized.

No, Communism has not been proven to work well in China for the following reasons:
- when Mao Zedong took the throne and introduced the system, he became power-corrupt and left the country into over-population, and undereducation
- if you so much as mouth out so much as a minimally-critical statement against the state as shown in the Tianamen Massacre and Liu Xiao Bo case about the milk powder, you will be in trouble
- most of the officials who work within the system are easily bribed to the point where nobody knows what to do anymore

I am a Chinese, but I am very ashamed of what the motherland has become. Even a despicable person like Deng Xiao Peng knew that Mao's leadership is wrong, so he opened up the country to outside trade. But that was the beginning of the end of Chinese freedom.

If China was prospering well because of Communism, then why do the members of the government's heirarchy send their kids to study abroad. Why are the North Koreans fleeing the DPRK if it was prospering well?

I don't pretend to think that the USA is better as the government installs a form of dictatorship in Chile and Iran through the 20th century, but I don't see why you would say China is doing much better.

Just my two dimes.

EDIT: That being said, I still think Marx is a smart man. Or even a great man, although his theories have been abused. There are ways that his theories can be used to benefit mankind. Such examples are:

- free eduation
- socialised medicine
- welfare
- workers' unions

"Workers of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose but your chains" was one of the most important quotes of the world.

Ideology or system created by many great man have purpose, for better live and society, as well as communists and other ideologies.

I think, the problem is could the state administrators (people in government) carry it out properly and without corruption, as well as having a passion for the welfare of all its citizens.

On paper Communism looks good and works, but in practice it does not.

Humans are imperfect creatures and are easily effected by the 7 deadly sins, they especially affect those who have power over other people.

As long as there is an overseer, the system will fail.

But Capitalism still has its problems. Slavery, well, you can start with that one.

Karl Marx made huge contributions to, pretty much the only consistent school of thought that is critical of capitalism. Any system that is not subject to criticism begins to rot, so even people who like capitalism ought to appreciate the role of Karl Marx in history.

Don't know about Marx (probably still a damn jew), but the communism system is the most idiot one. The 1st one. He has won the nobel prize for stupidity. And it's still the winner.
