According to this link, re-releases of physical media versions of the series Star Trek Deep Space Nine and Voyager are going to be high-definition quality. Instead, they are going to be par with VHS quality.

What drove Paramount to do that? What were they smoking?

The link was written one year ago so I don't know if they're already "demastered" or anything like that, but I guess I'll keep my rips and save my money.

I was even going to make this a gift idea, but it sure as hell is fucking impossible.

If I do see this at a local Walmart, I'll throw it to the ground.

What a shitload of well, bullshit.

I think what they'll do is they'll release it and then afterwards realise what they've done and how big a mistake they've made..

I've seen this kind of thing happen before with a certain music release.  They release it thinking it's going to do well and then when it doesn't sell they suddenly change their mind then and rethink.  It'll probably end up on some streaming platform at some stage some rubbish like Netflix or something along those lines...

I mean VHS who on earth buys that anymore?  They may have become more deluded than ever this time and yes what are they smoking exactly?  Well they obviously aren't passing it around whatever it is that's for sure.  You're supposed to roll with the times not take back steps..

Fuck, just realised something: the article was dated on April 1, 2022! What was I smoking?!?

It was April Fools! I just knew it now!

But to this day, no Blu-Ray/3D Blu Ray/4K releases for Deep Space Nine and Voyager were stated to this day, so rant still counts.

I would very much like them to bring it to high definition.

I guess the funny thing about it they went to a lot of trouble to write that entire article just for the sake of an April's fool joke.  It seems the joke was on them for going to all that trouble and making something and writing which took all that time.

Maybe these people are completely bored and just wanted to have something kind of fun which they probably don't get at home when they're with their wives...

More proof if any were needed that Trekkies are most easily trolled fanbois in The Universe (and not merely in The Alpha Quadrant).  Don't get me wrong--I enjoy Star Trek too--but c'mmmooooon maaaaaan!  Even a brief scan (heh! heh!) of the article should have revealed it was a complete spoof, regardless of the date of publication.  "Moore Moonves" is an obvious play on Les Moonves, a well-known and notorious executive at Paramount rival CBS/Viacom, who was involved in a major sex abuse scandal throughout 2021 and 2022.  The eBay "sales chart" was an obvious spoof (-10% DVD sales?  Huh??), and the two YouTube clips near the end clinched it.  Both looked and sounded way worse than any Trek episodes I taped myself back in the 90s using blank tapes I bought Dollar Tree.  Seriously!

This article frankly is disappointing as a piss-take.  The shitstorm that would have resulted if it had been posted to Memory Alpha instead would have been far more amusing.

Just saying, in the ranges (badlands) a sale basket full of low quality, damaged, soon to expire, or just plain hard sells, that make lotta sense.
The barbarian pigmes will buy those.

I'm all for that Robert I like it when people bring things to Blu Ray.  No need for 4K either too expensive, 4K is not something I normally buy anyway I think I just let my TV do all the upscaling anyway and I find it's cheaper rather than buying a 4K disc.  2K is fine in my book, if anything, like you say in this situation, is worth bringing to a new disc release then I'm glad if they do because it's what is needed and yes I hate Netflix also and other rubbish sites like it because it is destroying the world of physical media which is much better in my opinion...

For aught we know, that may already be happening.  It has been a long time since I last thumbed through the offerings in the $1 DVD bins at our local discount stores.

I hate to say it, but I think the money dictates no HD release for either DS9 or Voyager.  I remember regularly watching DS9, but not Voyager, because Voyager was broadcast on the now defunct UPN network (a/k/a "CBS for Poor People"), which had a very low power station in our market.  Both were successful series in that they managed to run for seven seasons during a time of massive fractionalization in the TV market, but neither had the audience of the massively successful (and expensive) TNG.  While HD releases of each series might well make money, I am doubtful either could make enough to interest the current rights holder.

I think there are some fanmade AI upscales floating around, but I don't know which ones are the best.
