The origin and meaning of "Winston"

Perhaps one of the long-time moderators can take a moment to explain the origin and meaning of the name "Winston" when used to refer to The PirateBay's administrator. The most recent example being: "Just give us a day or two to figure out how Winston got the fucking goldfish in there."

I've always wondered if the name is derived, at least in part, from the character of Winston Smith in George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.
