The Sum of All Fears

I've a doubt, but there're two movies of same name: The 2002 movie from the Jack Ryan novel series AND an old one, unrelated?
I remember seeing references to it on various sites years ago, but now it's vanished.

The movie I saw long ago was black & white, dating from around 1950-1970. Plot was similar to Fail Safe, but definitely not that movie: An USAF base commander gone mad orders a bomber to attack Russia; after realizing what happened, the Army assaults the base to regain control, and the crazy officer barricades in his office with his friend, the base's doctor. The bomber alone manages to evade interceptors and in the final sequence, approaching the target, a crewman climbs on the bomb to force open the jammed clamp, and falls "cowboy style", waving his hat, like riding a bull.

Anyone remembers this?
