Over the past few years the number of torrents that get uploaded but not seeded is rising. Is there any chance you guys can recognize this torrents as spam and delete them?

How have you determined that they are not seeded, and why would that make them spam?

They're not spam though, and here's why:

- Some seeders seed at certain times of day only, so while a torrent may not start downloading through the day, it may at nighttime when innernets speed improves for a lot of people.

- The seeding figures have never been reliable. Members download torrents that apparently have 0 seeders all the time, your torrent client will provide more accurate numbers of seeders/leechers.

- We don't go round removing apparently unseeded torrents because that would be removing them from the rest of the filesharing community, permanently. Individual uploaders however, can request dead torrents be deleted in their Account Issues thread, but no one else can request another uploaders torrents be deleted. Another thing to consider with new torrents is that sometimes noobs configure their client settings incorrectly, but with a bit of technical advice, the issue can be remedied so that others can share what they've uploaded.

- Many people will download torrents, seed them for a short time, but will keep hold of the torrent - which comes in handy when members put in requests for reseeds.

I don't believe for one second that you have been recording, for years, the total numbers of torrents being uploaded and the total numbers of new torrents being seeded.

Therefore you have absolutely no idea of whether the numbers are rising or not, let alone why, or whether it is in any way a problem.

So you are all denying that people deliberately upload torrents without seeding them.It is only common sense to see that something that has been going on for a while has gotten bigger in numbers and that the result of downloading these torrents has the same effect as having your mail client filled with spam. It was just a suggestion for conversation. I am not imposing this on you.

to Spud 17:
Your points are correct. I should have noted in my first post , i had more in mind fresh torrents that get uploaded and never seeded.  What is your opinion about those?

We are not denying that anybody ever uploads a torrent without seeding it.

We are denying that so many people have begun doing it so often that it constitutes such a significant threat to the viability of the site that it warrants the imposition of new rules.

And you know that. Otherwise, if it was a real, serious, and growing problem, you would have no trouble providing proof; rather than merely trying to put words into our mouths in a pathetic attempt at trolling.

I actually do believe you thought it was a good idea at the time, so thank you for taking the time to suggest it, and carry on if you will, but this suggestion won't be being implemented.

I know that there are a LOT more people who hit and run now that there used to be. Many uploaders will seed initially until a few have it and then they will stop seeding and rely on the downloaders to continue seeding. The problem with that is all the people hitting and running. I don't see it as the uploader's fault. It's also not a spam or scam upload.

That is just as unfounded an opinion as the OP's. I've been torrenting for a long time, and hearing complaints about hit and runners for just as long. They are the reason torrents on public trackers aren't (and never have been and never will be) as well seeded as torrents on private trackers. They are a big part of the reason private trackers exist in the first place. And they are a direct consequence of the original design of the protocol (which actually punishes seeders, indirectly and inadvertently).

But you are right that initial seeders don't always stick around for long beyond the appearance of secondary seeds; and that they shouldn't and don't have to. If the community does not support torrents, that is the community's problem.
