Rome, SANA- Syria’s ambassador to the Vatican Hussam Eddin Ala, discussed during his meeting with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, bilateral relations and developments in Syria and the region.
Ambassador Ala and Cardinal Parolin reviewed the overall developments taking place in Syria and the great efforts made by the Syrian state to meet the basic needs of its citizens and facilitate the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.
Talks during the meeting also tackled the obstacles facing Syria as a result of the unilateral coercive measures that affect the life and livelihood of the Syrian citizens, referring to Pope Francis’ call in his speech before the diplomatic corps to put an end to the unjust sanctions that exacerbate the human suffering of the Syrian people.
Ala held the US and Turkish occupation forces responsible for prolonging the crisis in Syria and exacerbating human suffering, with the United States continuing to support “separatist militias” and sponsoring the theft of natural resources and smuggling them across the border to tighten the siege on Syria and the Turkish regime’s continued support for terrorism and its use of water as a means of war in the areas it occupies.
He affirmed the Syrian government’s keenness to restore stability by continuing national reconciliations and completing the liberation of the Syrian land from terrorism and occupation, and its support for the work of the Committee of Discussing the Constitution under the leadership and ownership of Syria without any foreign interference.
For his part, Cardinal Parolin affirmed Pope Francis’ keenness to end the suffering of the Syrian people by lifting economic sanctions, advancing the political track and the work of the Committee of Discussing the Constitution.
Ambassador Ala had participated in the annual reception hosted by the Vatican in the presence of Pope Francis for ambassadors accredited on the occasion of the New Year.
