Explosions on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines were acts of sabotage, the Swedish prosecutor's office confirmed on Friday, adding that the investigation was going on.

Considerable evidence has been collected during the crime scene inspection in the Baltic Sea, and everything was thoroughly documented. Examinations conducted to date show traces of explosives on several of the objects that were recovered. Preliminary analysis is continuing with the aim of producing more substantial conclusions about the incident, said prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist, who is in charge of the investigation.

The ongoing probe is very complex and comprehensive, the Swedish prosecutor's office noted. It is expected to prove whether it is possible to present suspicions of committing this crime to someone.

For further preliminary investigation it is important to ensure that this work can proceed calmly, said Ljungqvist. At present, the prosecutor cannot provide more information and is not available to the media.

On September 27, Nord Stream AG reported unprecedented damage that occurred the day before on three strings of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 offshore gas pipelines. On September 26, Swedish seismologists registered two explosions on the pipeline routes. The Russian Prosecutor-General’s Office launched legal proceedings over an act of international terrorism.
