When the interface merge 2 or more consecutive posts by a same author, the time-date stamp should be that of the last post instead of the first to account for the change.

Perhaps. But that is part of the core MyBB functionality. There is no selectable option to change it (and it's not a big enough problem to warrant creation of a patch).

They way it works now is the desired performance. If we wanted each successive post to update the thread, we would disable the auto-merge. But in some places, we don't want each of a string of successive posts to "bump" the thread, so it keeps the original post timestamp, and each additional post is merged and updates the edited timestamp.
