Super Zeroes
Mediocrities, Assemble! Super Zeroes is a special packed with the best moments of some of the corniest vintage superhero flicks ever made. Complete with host segments from Mike, Kevin and Bill!
It’s hard to remember now, but there was a time, about a thousand years ago, when big expensive superhero movies didn’t dominate the multiplexes. Oh, we had the same superheroes, sure, but their screen versions weren’t quite as glossy – they were more like the bags of cereal on the bottom shelf with names like “Sugar Triangles.”
We’re talking about the '70s and '80s, when TV movie versions of Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and The Hulk ran free across the nation’s airwaves. A time when Spider-Man’s costume looked the same as the guys dressed like him charging for photographs on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. When Doctor Strange had an afro and got seduced by a young Jessica Walter (aka, Lucille Bluth) playing a foxy sorceress.
And yes, the one and only Reb Brown as Captain America, motorcycle helmet and all. Slab Throwshield, riffed at last! You don’t want to miss his hang glider showdown with Christopher Lee. Yes, you read that sentence right.
We even dip our toe into the 90s, with the infamously unreleased Fantastic Four made by Roger Corman. Honestly, it’s not much worse and maybe better than some of the ones that were released, somehow!
And what’s a superhero event without some crossovers? Thor, Daredevil, Kingpin, they’re all technically “here.” Speaking of crossovers, we’re excited to say we brought on heavy-hitter comics writer and generally hilarious person Gail Simone to help write this one! She’s won a ton of awards and written all kinds of major comics like Uncanny X-Men, Wonder Woman, Deadpool, Birds of Prey, and Red Sonja, to name a few. Safe to say, Gail knows her stuff!
Mike, Kevin and Bill introduce each movie and then riff the juiciest parts (sorry for describing Reb Brown as “juicy”). It’s a super-special and it’s super special. Don’t miss Super Zeroes!
Written by: Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett, Gail Simone, Conor Lastowka, Sean Thomason, Jason Miller, and Zach Shatzer
