Heya
I Really Liked the comments on TPB And i wonder why they are gone since i think they showed
if there are any problems with the torrent and if it's a good or "bad" (in the health sense) torrent
In My Personal opinion you should bring back the comments on TPB

There is a bonus about not having comments on torrents. It prevents certain people who go around TPB and like to post negative comments about Torrents where they are trying to purposely put people off them even when there is nothing wrong or also posting comments that have totally nothing to do with the torrent at all and they are going on about something else and completely nothing that has any connection to what has been uploaded. I'm actually a lot more happier now because people can't put negative rubbish on my releases, it did happen to me before a few times. People do tend to have a habit of posting total rubbish on certain torrent comments. If you like an uploader then just stick to them through TPB experience. If you don't know somebody and have no interest in them then stay well clear of them.
Most people who post negative remarks usually end up being removed or deleted from the server eventually. I used to post comments up until about a certain point I think it was 2017 and then I just gave up due to strange Trolls and sorts who were very dumb and very rude at the same time. Not very nice people at all a bit more like the kind of people that like to Troll the Void on a regular basis.

Well I do like your thread and it's very good and you make some good points. Trolls can be a problem, I've had to deal with a lot of Trolls now for years. Some of them really crazy people too. The comments that are put on TPB torrents there are some good people that say good things. Tends to be that you get trolled yourself and you troll back and it gets out of hand.
I did get some negative stuff on mine so yes it was annoying because it's easy for a Troll to comment in about 5 seconds and when it's taken you hours or even days to make a torrent like I have it's a bit unfair when somebody comes along and posts something to try and put people off it's not very nice. The good thing about comments though if you want to know if there's some kind of trojan packed into the torrent. Last thing you want is for somebody to try and infect you with something. I have downloaded stuff before and tried things out and found some good uploaders and I remember their names maybe perhaps these days open a virtual OS and run the program or App in there and see if there is anything wrong with it and then at least you don't mess your own OS up during the process.

As for uploaders i usually scan what i download with Malwarebytes (Besides the obvious crack files XD) to see if the file hasn't been tempered with

Winston (the TPB Admin) disabled the ability to post comments when he revamped the site into a more simple, less resource hungry one. The crew have been mythering him to death ever since to enable it again.
For crew, being able to leave comments is an integral part of modding the site. When an uploader breaks the rules, whether unknowingly or deliberately, we usually leave a comment on their latest torrent explaining what they've done wrong and warning them not to do it again. If we find a problem with someone's account, we'll lock it, then post a comment along the lines of 'there is an issue with your account, please post in Account Issues on the forum.' Alas, we can no longer do this and it's beyond frustrating.
From a users point of view, being able to thank an uploader is part of the TPB experience. How many of us have downloaded a really great, often rare, torrent and then thanked the uploader for sharing it with everyone else? I'd wager squillions of tpb users have done this, and it's really nice to be able to thank someone for taking the time and trouble to share something with the rest of the world. Requests and reseed requests are another part of commenting, and it's great when uploaders reply to them and fulfil requests. Commenting on the health of a torrent is important too, and allows users to give feedback on any technical glitches that the uploader may not be aware of. EG 'you forgot to include the subs' or 'episode 6 cuts off suddenly and has the last 10 mins missing.'
The downsides to commenting are of course, as Rodders mentioned, trolls, as well as spam comments. Troll commentators are usually very dimwitted and will use several different accounts to target uploaders they don't like/are jealous of, but crew can easily spot them and will ban all of their accounts. Crew advice on this matter has always been to ignore the trolls, report them, and let us investigate.
We're going to keep mythering Winston to bring back commenting, but for all the silence we're met with on the issue, you'd think we were asking him to recite War & Peace in Klingon while spinning upside down on his head and juggling 7 scalding hot roasted monkey peenors.

Should the functionality come back, would that include old comments as well? Or are those gone for good now?

I would think TPB still has most if not all the comments in the database. It is just a matter of writing an API to access the old ones and store new ones.

I miss the comments it was a way I kept in touch with certain people here. I also am very familiar with the trolls but they stopped bugging me after I got my skulls. And I notice the stat bug is still around after all the changes the Big 0 is still here. I used to have to post a comment that it was actually a live share. So if we still gotta suffer the grief at least give up some gravy. After all the changes it seems like not much of a change. Just less functionality and and nothing added. Images still gone. And BB code never even appeared. Just commenting gone. But I guess thats the new and improved version.
