Study suggests eating mushrooms could lower cancer risk by 45%

A new study from Pennsylvania State University is touting the potential cancer-fighting properties of mushrooms. The study, published in 'Advances in Nutrition,' shows that individuals who ate two medium-sized mushrooms daily had a 45% lower risk of cancer compared to those who ate no mushrooms at all.

The research looked at 17 cancer studies from 1966 to 2020 and analyzed over 19,500 cancer patients. The team’s findings showed that people who incorporated any variety of mushrooms into their daily diets had a lower risk of cancer.

Quote:"With such promising results from the study, we must include mushrooms in our everyday diet, but also make sure that we are including whole grains, fiber, vegetables and fruit, as they can also be protective against certain cancers," said Fareeha Jay, UK-based Dietitian.
