Screeners
#1
Hi Guys,

Today I went on to my torrent and someone said "No matter, turns out to be a screener. will pass" Then he went on to give me a lot more rubbish.Angry I was wondering are screeners really that bad and what are they actually because it doesn't seem much of a big deal to me. I just re-uploaded something I downloaded because the S-L ratio was so low on that particular one.

Any advice is good advice

Cya next time,

wikipedia - A screener (SCR) is an advance screening of a film sent to critics, awards voters, video stores (for their manager and employees), and other film industry professionals, including producers and distributors.

And they aren't bad necessarily, it depends whether you want to wait for the actual DVD or Blu Ray release or not. And whether you mind the text that they usually put on them or that in some cases uploaders crop off, making the screen resolution smaller.

In the case of the torrent you linked, the problem may be that you don't specify in the name or description that it is a screener.

No. But failing to declare one is.

If you bought brand name medicine and got home to find there was generic product inside the box, you would feel deceived, even though the active ingredient was exactly the same.

People are entitled to not download screeners if they choose. But they can't choose if you don't tell them.

Something you originally downloaded from TPB? That's also not-against-the-rules-but-against-the-spirit. If a torrent you have downloaded is short of seeds, you should seed it, not create yet another copy of it which would only dilute the swarm even further.

Having searched, it looks like you (or the person your downloaded from) has taken an Xvid encode and re-encoded it to mp4. Again, you haven't been upfront and honest about that.

Honesty is the best policy. At the very least it will reduce the amount of abuse you get. Abuse which I have to say was justified in this case.

Never mind, chalk it up to experience and do better next time.

[Also, since we're discussing your torrent descriptions, don't post your email address in torrent comments. Certainly don't disguise your email address to slip it past the filters which block the posting of email addresses--that will get you banned.]

There's absolutely nothing wrong with uploading screeners as long as theyre labeled accordingly. If that particular screener is already available on TPB, dont upload yet another one unless you have changed it dramatically from ALL others to improve it. Period.
