Saving Characters Properly
#1
It was so easy in Poser to Save a new Character. You just clicked the button and there it was, done.
Now in Daz3d 4.9, the choice is overwhelming, I THINK, because I don't know why there are so many choices to save!
So, to start with, what I want to know is: How do I save a Character, with clothes and Morphs, and how do I get it to appear in the Content Library.
I'm sure they used to show up in the Smart Content library in 4.8, but I could be wrong.

Didn't read the links above (though they likely contain lots of good stuff). Ultra short version:

If you want:
Just the character shape (Only applies shaping presets)- Save As Shaping Preset...
Just the materials of the character/figure/prop- Save As Material Preset...
The materials of the character/figure/prop and anything fit to said figure (e.g. genitals)- Save As Hierarchical Material Preset...
The whole character as is, with all morphs, materials, etc.- Save As Character Preset...
The whole character as is, with whatever is fit/parented to them to load with them, all morphs, materials, etc.- Save As Scene Subset...
Just morphs- Save as Properties Preset... and select the desired morphs
Just the items fit/parented to the figure- Select main figure and Save As Wearables Preset...
(Make sure you select the poses if wearing something like high heels, ignore the General boxes, unless you want to also reset your character when loading the items in the wearables preset. Good way to save high heel poses is deselect, and then expand all the way to the respective feet, selecting those. On load, regardless of figure position/pose, feet will be set to the heels, and you can adjust from there for your scene. Great time saver if you like to work out placement before clothing, or if the clothing is resource heavy so you want to do as much as possible before loading it in.)

That should cover most of the common uses for character saving stuff. I use subsets almost exclusively for characters, once I decide on their hair and textures. Then I'll usually save outfits as wearables if they're more universal/flexible characters, or save the outfit with them in the subset by overwriting. Makes getting characters set up easy, and fights the dreaded Daz Studio has encountered an error thing I manage to find several times a day.

Personally I use save as scene subset and select the items from the scene I want to be included in the file. Pose, character settings, hair all is saved.
