I forgot that I entirely took out the Batman serial and gave it its own season because... well, it doesn't really work as a short (and sure as hell doesn't feel short; I think I managed to get through 2 parts) and doesn't really mix well with the rest of the normal shorts. So that's 15 right there. Wikipedia also includes the Rifftrax Presents shorts in with the regular shorts, which I don't. I also moved specials like Nestor and Signal 30 and, obviously, all the Bridget & Mary Jo specials.
If it didn't originally have "Rifftrax Shorts" in the name, I didn't include it in the list (except for Batman, since it's a serial and kind of goes together as its own thing, like the Nat Geo videos). They retroactively tagged it onto Nestor years later, but that was a year before they even started doing shorts and was an early solo Mike video.

Yeah I imagine we all have variable rules about what makes the shorts...
I personally organize mine in Plex as "seasons" based on the release year (with the exception of Season 1 which covers Nestor and a Visit to Santa, making it 3 years' worth), and any kind of short is fair game. Except, I too have Batman and NatGeo broken out into their own Seasons at the end of the list. I also have a Season 0 which is all the shorts from MST3K (except those that were serials).
I also list mine by official shop release order, so if it was pre-released as a kickstarter reward, it kind of floats at the end of the list waiting for a full release.
I also have used a video splitter to extract shorts from the live shows that never got a separate studio release and stick them in the list wherever the live show recording was released.
Feature-length content (JTJ and VOD) are all its own library, and I override the release date of the film with the release date of the riff so I can sort by oldest-newest riffs any time.
I'm sure I'm the only one who follows these exact rules, but I think the key is to do it however works for you. These rules just help me maintain a consistent organization.
Also, thank you for the short - Though with the SANTA sale I think it's time for me to catch up again.
