QuipTracks is trying to go PWYW
#1
Hey everybody. This is Tristan from QuipTracks. If you need me to verify, we can figure something out, but for now I just want to tell you that we would really like to start offering all of our tracks on a Pay-What-You-Want basis... except we haven't found a good way to do that through Shopify. So what we're doing for now is offering tracks as "payment optional" – if you go to the pages for The Lake House, The Perfect Weapon, or Jurassic Park (which was already free), you'll see the Add to Cart button, but you'll also see links to download the tracks directly, without even needing to check out or have an account.
We are humbly asking people to do one of the following in exchange:
  • Come back and purchase the track if you liked it
  • Donate any amount you choose (in $1 increments) to our Ko-Fi
  • or Spread it around
  • Oh, and reviews are also appreciated, whether you got the track through our site or not. You don't have to have an account or anything.
We are converting tracks to payment-optional over time, coinciding with our releases of their 15-min previews, but the plan is to do them all.

Honestly, we have always liked that you guys put our work in front of more eyeballs. If there's anything we can do to make reauthoring easier, let me know. One of our projects right now is retooling old tracks and redesigning the Readme files (based on some feedback, I'm adding before and after screenshots for every sync-point, for one thing). Another project is creating combined movie/riff subtitles.

We are at the point where it's getting difficult for us to sustain this project, so for QuipTracks (and The Order of the League) to keep going, we need exposure. Sadly, it is very difficult to get people to even TRY watching a whole riff, even with the fifteen-minute previews we've started making. Sharing directly among friends seems to be the most effective way, so, again, thank you for circulating the tapes, and please keep it up.

I'm in

Nice to hear from you and thanks for the quality riffage.

Once my faulty brain accepted that marker point is the end of the tone, I haven't had any issues getting your riffs to sync up.

Wow, thanks for that correction, BadFilms; it's fixed in the o.p. now. And a big thank you to those who used it!

Just to bump Quiptrax again. For those that dont know, my screen name and avatar are from Quiptracks "In the Name of the King 2".
These guys are very funny and totally worth the regular price if you don't know them. Many of the riffs are better than much of the Rifftrax catalogue (particularly the more recent riffs).

  Highly recommended.

Since I mentioned captions/subtitles in the original post, let me get you guys' opinion on something: If you're watching a riff with captions for both the movie and jokes and there's a joke based on mishearing a line of dialog, would you rather the captions be accurate to the movie, or spelled phonetically as we hear it?

For example: In The Lake House, a character says something that sounds like "I can't get to seventeen until at least next week" and we respond "Why does the senate need to be here?" because the way he mumbles it, it sounds like "I can't get the senate here." So should that be captioned as the script intended or like it sounds?

The bucket for the joke is actor delivery/audio - if you didn't hear it you wouldn't get the joke anyway and those never play over text. So I'd keep the subs accurate to the intended line ("seventeen" in your example). Plus it's fun to read how bad the actor/A1 botched the line. Just my opinion.
