I have a couple questions. I have been digging around on here to see if there was a way to get the titles to match RiffTrax's metadata and not the default. Is there a file I can download or a instructions online to match up the metadata with RiffTrax in Plex? I have close to 300 Features and a ton of shorts and I'd like some advice from those that are in-the-know with Plex or know how to populate RiffTrax info instead of the movie database info.
Thanks in advance. If I missed it in a thread, let me know.

So, you wanna set up Rifftrax as a television show in Plex and then name the files according to how they're listed on the TVDB. ( https://thetvdb.com/series/rifftrax)
If you have a lot of files to rename at once, I like to use Rename My TV Series 2. It has a pretty simple drag and drop interface and takes away the monotony of renaming your files individually. It can be found at: https://www.tweaking4all.com/home-theatr...series-v2/
Hope that helps!

I use the standard movie metadata and then manually change just the title and artwork. For The Magnetic Monster which was released today I would change the title to Rifftrax Presents: The Magnetic Monster (it's a Brigette & Maryjo) , the sort title to Rifftrax Presents: Magnetic Monster, and then download the Rifftrax poster and manually choose that for the Plex artwork. For a new video that you're adding you can also add a copy of the Rifftrax artwork to the folder. Then you give that poster the exact same name as the video file and add -poster (no space) at the end. When you do that the Rifftrax poster shows up as one of the default selections in Plex for the movie. If for some reason you want to use the Rifftrax description instead of the default movie plot you can manually copy and paste that. There's no way I would recommend using the Rifftrax metadata in Plex because when it does come up there is no movie information--Mike, Bill and Kevin show up as the performers instead of the movie actors and the Rifftrax release date shows up instead of the film's release date. If you wanted to watch Rifftrax do a John Carradine movie or Greydon Clark film you can't search Plex for either name because they don't show up in the Rifftrax metadata. The Rifftrax metadata often comes up in emby and I always change it to match the movie and then manually change the title to add the Rifftrax prefix. With emby when the Rifftrax meta comes up the Rifftrax artwork does as well. You can manually match the movie metadata but leave the Rifftrax artwork which saves you one step from Plex. But in Plex you can create a smart playlist that will automatically add every movie title that includes the word Rifftrax.
As a side note to the above, I also use Kodi from the same computer with Samba file sharing of my media folders. Kodi always picks up the exact same metadata as emby so Rifftrax movies show up with the same everything as they do on emby including the changes that I manually made. Kodi does not do that with Plex so emby and Plex must create their database information differently and Kodi is able to read the local database information created by emby.

I use Sonarr and have imported all my Rifftrax into it ... has all the seasons listed correctly. I do not use it to automate the downloading, but it will do mass renaming.

I actually created a separate folder for RiffTrax and use the original media's info. Like I get the cover art for Iron Heart, Cyclone, etc. as they are as regular movies. Pretty fun. Your mileage may vary!

I think this is pretty much what I've landed on after all of these years too. Yeah that "official Rifftrax" matchup where it list MKB and nobody else wasn't great so I also just match with the actual movie, snag the poster from the RT website, keep the "local media assets" checked in the Plex agents section (which gives you their funny movie description/summary)...and then the last thing that I only started using this week is the "edition" section in Plex metadata I'll change it to "Rifftrax" (highlighted in the pic) so it knows not to put ALL of my versions of that movie in Continue Watching. It seriously got ridiculous when like 3 or 4 versions of the same movie was clogging up the Continue Watching section but this finally does the trick and keeps them all as separate versions.

So I too use sonarr only to alert me when a new episode is out for rifftrax (as no one seems to UL these to usenet) and keep track of whats missing. Sonarr pulls its data from thetvdb, which is nice as its also a metadata source for plex. and thetvdb is editable, though their moderation team are sorta complete dickheads (more on that in a min). Plex has semi-recently switched their "scanner to their in house "Plex TV Series" Scanner, previously you used to be able to select your metadata source specifically but with the new scanner its a mix of info from thetvdb IMDB and others. So far this scanner has pulled the right Metadata for the series.
I highly suggest using a system like sonarr to rename your files for you to the plex compliant naming convention, which makes metadata matching with thetvdb.com that much easier. Additionally plex has a deal with them where they receive the updated info from the tvdb a little quicker (within 24 hours) from their scrapes vs other sources (up to 48 hours). Which means you may have to wait on Sonarr to get the data from the tvdb from time to time. In this case I typically upload the file to ep 00 in specials and watch it the night of there, before moving it back to the sonarr watch folder and having sonarr re-match it once it has the current tvdb data.
The issue with thetvdb.com is that a few years ago the moderators of that site in their infinite wisdom came up with the bullshit rule that "no episode poster could contain text" this effectively erased the Rifftrax movie posters for many many folks, as the name of the movie is always on the poster in text. So no what I do is as the movie is DLing from either rifftrax.com or here I open gimp where I have a template, grab the artwork and slap together a movie poster that complies to the Plex standard of 670x1340 px. Turn around time is pretty quick. However to keep the poster after tv library rescan, make sure to go into the TV library in plex and in the advanced features and click the check box for "use local assets".
In summation use the plex tv scanner, make sure you're naming your files right so plex knows what they are (include the IMDB/TVDB identifying numbers) - automation (sonarr) is your friend here, you're still going to have to do something about the posters if you want them but that can be easily solved.
PS if you want episode number corrected MST3k vs the air order, set your MST3k to use DVD ordering from Plex. I had to go through the TVDB and provide the correct ordering at one point, and I wasn't allowed to modify what they had as the official aired order so I had to put it under DVD ordering. This solvs an issue where 2-4 episodes in the earlier seasons (2 and 3 if memory serves) were swapped metadata wise.

Sonarr actually started getting info from tvdb pretty quickly not too long ago, maybe 10 minutes at most after they're added you can refresh to get the new ones

This is really awesome guys. It was an adventure. lol I broke my plex server twice and had to do it twice. I ended up using local metadata for that Library and it managed to find most of the 312 movies. There have been 5 that have been stubborn. Every time I synch the server, they reset and show Vin Diesels mug from xXx. It is really funny. But it works now. I discovered Renamer was a gem with fixing a lot of my server. Once I had the right naming, it was easy peezy. I really appreciate you folks.
