PLEX issues

Does anyone here use Plex to catalog and watch Rifftrax? Ever since 1990 Bronx Warriors, Plex will not correctly update the titles on the Season page, and uses only the numbers, and that only after you enter the correct date so that the movie appears in the proper sequence. Then, even after you fix the title information, it reverts back to the number every time you scan in a new title! Every movie up to Yesterday's target is stable, everyting after that disappears. Same thing happens to recent shorts as well. I can't find anything on the Plex forums about it.

Make sure you name them correctly, Plex just scrapes from TVDB.  I have all my Rifftrax, MST3K and Cinematic Titanics in Plex and they are all fine.

Thanks, but that is not the issue, everything that works uses the same naming conventions as the ones that don't.

Well as you can see mine are correct.  Plex is *very* picky sometimes about naming, just because something you did works doesn't mean it will always work.  There is a reason that support article exists.

In particular the one you are having issues with has a date in the title, so if its not named correctly, Plex might be picking that up as an actual date and the match will be screwed up.

It would only take you a minute to copy my naming and test it out.

Sometimes it seems to take a little bit for the episodes to be scrapable, you might have to manually refresh metadata on some

This is the reason I make NFO files for all my Rifftrax files (aside from the fact that The TVDB is garbage). I use an NFO-reading plugin for Plex (mostly to allow my friend remote access, as I usually just watch things in Kodi) and it mostly works okay, but Plex can be awfully buggy or temperamental about loading and retaining information.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I'll keep trying.

When using Plex, I only file the shorts as TV seasons. The movies I just file as regular movies in a special RiffTrax only library, and then I replace all the poster art with RiffTrax covers. It's easier for my needs.

I used to use plex a lot a few years ago but gave up when it seemed like they added so many features that the program got overloaded.
It got so bad i couldn't even watch videos anymore without it frequently pausing and being unplayable unless i only had Plex on and didn't use my computer for anything else. I work from home and only have one PC, so that wasn't an option for me.
Is it more stable now?

I loved having a program that would show me what id watched and what i hadn't (I have some memory problems from an accident, so this saved me a lot of time and frustration).
Also, i was really disappointed when they took some previously free options and hid them behind a paywall (i was a paying customer at the time, but didn't like that tactic).

The TVDB agent goes down or freaks out regularly.  There are ways to clear the agent caches, which may be the culprit for you:

https://support.plex.tv/articles/2029673...tp-caches/

If you look here you can see the information as it exists for the agent to pick up:

https://www.thetvdb.com/series/rifftrax

So if it's not properly obtaining that information for your library, there is a breakdown along the way.

ALSO, sometimes if you're using MP4 files, Plex will prioritize the meta info in the file over the info found by the TVDB agent.

You can use the info here to see how to make the TVDB agent the top priority:
