I updated to v3 through the auto update and have not had any problems

I tried this last night with one airport (cracked).. it shows up fine in ftx central v3 (lights up as active).. my concern would be a cross check on the orbx account signed in with and they flag it as not legit/purchased.. maybe it will never do that, no way to tell i guess, for now.
