Other Public Torrent sites
#1
With the recent demise of KickAss Torrents, TPB uploaders may be looking for one or more additional public torrent sites to use as "insurance" in the event TPB suffers downtime.

What other public sites have you used to post torrents?

Rather than just posting links, please take a moment to evaluate them based on your experience.  For example, to what extent do those sites comply with DMCA takedown demands?  Are the sites easy to navigate?  Are the moderators accessible and helpful if you need them?  Would you recommend them to others?

I'm sure that many people, including myself, would appreciate your honest, critical assessments.

Links are easy to find and tell users who are new to uploading almost nothing.

What I'm hoping to generate here is a comparative assessment of these sites based on your own experience.  What are their respective strengths and weaknesses?  Which would you recommend (or not recommend) to others, and why?  And so on.

I'm not expecting contributors to write a treatise . . . but hopefully something a little more informative to others than a simple link.

I use demonoid. It works perfect. You need to register to upload. It's open for registration pretty often, so if it's not open right now just check from time to time. To download you don't need to register.
The search engine is great, you can refine search by type of content, quality, etc.
The forum is barely used by anyone, but it's up to people to change that.
Demonoid is dmca compliant in theory, but they have never deleted any torrent of mine. Kat deleted quite a few.

Maybe new accounts take some time to get activated for uploading, just have some patience.

You don't need to add the text file with "torrent downloaded from demonoid" in the torrent files, even if that's stated in the rules, that are confusing.
Demonoid has a tracker, that must be the first one in the list of trackers of the torrent, and include the text file, only for internal torrents. But you can upload the torrent as "external". What's the difference between external and internal torrents? None.
To upload the torrent without the text file, as external torrent, you need to add some trackers to the torrent. A torrent without any tracker gives error on uploading. But, and this is the funny part, don't use the demonoid tracker, because this will give error again, now because there's no text file.

I upload classical music, and there are many classical uploaders there. In extratorrents I think there are none, for example. You need to take that into account too, if the tracker is used by people who downloads what you upload. The same goes for rargb.

Rutracker has a lot of classical music, but I don`t upload there. Their upload rules are strict and the communication I guess would be problematic. You can use rutracker with google chrome with the translation add-on installed, that translates the full page. Password is limited to a max of 20 characters, so don`t use long ones or you'll have problems registering.
I'd be interesting to know if someone here uploads to rutracker.

I've always wanted to be able to upload to RARBG but I've never been able to register.

Why ? Because they have scene leeching bots there ? Tongue
That site is just the same as the other public ones i wrote in my first post here, nothing special.
And btw they have wide country restrictions for entering - whole national subnets are banned there, to avoid copyright heat.

According to the FAQ of their site:

Quote:Account creation:

Accounts creation is always invite only. Based on your comment history you might get invited to the site by getting a link when posting a comment.

So unless you've got time on your hands to keep commenting, chances of getting to register seem pretty low. Hopefully they have something special for uploaders. Rutracker is good and using it with Google Chrome helps with translation built in and all. Of course if you get used to doing it, you may memorize the equivalents in Russian from a picture standpoint.

Extratorrent is generally good, from the infrastructure perspective, though they lack diversity, so I'd probably recommend sending your uploads there for the sheer diversification of their offerings.

Because (for an uploader) it gets a lot of traffic, increasing the chances of healthy swarms.

I didn't know that, but I agree with you it sounds implausible. Cheers for the info anyway, at least I know I've not been missing out on open registrations.
