Oldboy (original) vs Oldboy (Remake)
#1
The title of this might be misleading as I am not trying to pit the two against each other but would like to know others opinion on the two films. So have you seen the two? Or only one of them? Which do you prefer?

My perspective:
I will admit that I had not seen the original Oldboy until about a week ago and then a couple of days after I watched the remake, so I guess I don't have the "nostalgic" or this movie is a "classic" feeling towards the original as others might (but dam it was good).

That being said I thoroughly enjoyed both almost equally with the original probably a bit more simply because it was the original. I've read many reviews online bashing the remake but ehh I was entertained the whole way through.

The remake bombed at the box office. I was one of the few that went to see it.

Its pretty much a shot for shot remake. I didnt think it was very good. I wouldnt say it stunk, but the remake seemed more rushed and less authentic. The twist was pretty cheesy too.

I liked it, it was entertaining.

That being said, if im forced to choose between the two (which i thought was the original purpose by the title of thread so i will pretend it still is) i choose the original, but its not a fair fight, the remake starts with a huge disadvantage which is having a comparison point from the start, most of the times when i go see a movie i see the movie and either i liked it or not, pretty simple and straight forward, if i watch "About Time" i don't say "It was good but i liked Oblivion better" and not only it starts in disadvantage being compared to a parent movie but its also a movie i already REALLY liked, its futile. So when i see a remake, whether it is "Oldboy", "The Thing" or "King Kong" i try to watch the movie and completely forget about the original and just judge what im seeing on screen with out making any comparisons.

Final thoughts, its a good movie, i would go as far as saying that it was underrated on IMDB (solid 6 IMHO), Elizabeth Olsen is HOT and i didn't liked the fight scene when he leaves the place where he was held captive, the extras/stunts in the background where awful and the whole thing felt horrible.
