New popup message when downloading

When I click on the magnet icon to download a file I get a popup message mid screen with the question "Do you want to allow this page to open “(null)”?" "allow," or "cancel." This is a recent development, and occurs only on one of three Mac laptops I use. Can anyone explain or help? Tried google searches and clearing suspicious apps etc from this machine, but otherwise drawing a blank.
